So trump wanted to to appoint a guy who helps make our opoid epidemic worse as drug czar. Interesting.

Trump tweets that Marino is out of consideration for drug czar

President Donald Trump tweeted Tuesday that Rep. Tom Marino, a Pennsylvania Republican, has withdrawn his name from consideration to become the nation's next drug czar.

The congressman's withdrawal comes after a joint CBS "60 Minutes" and Washington Post report revealed that Marino took nearly $100,000 from the pharmaceutical lobby while sponsoring a bill that made it easier for drug companies to distribute opioids across American communities and thwart the Drug Enforcement Agency.

So I guess this wasn't fake news?...

Good move.

Of course, this is the typical Trump nomination putting a fox in charge of the henhouse to wreak mayhem and destruction of the very thing he is suppose to foster and take care of... see Betsy DeVos for the textbook example.

trump said this mourning he is "fine man"...a "good man"....What a joke

The DEA is a joke but so is the ONDCP.

Another high level appointee that the Trump administration somehow forgot to vet.

Trumps handling of the Opoid crisis has been terrible, Obama was terrible, Congress has been terrible, most states have been terrible...

THEWEEK has a VERY FRESH piece on this that is rather good:

America's opioid genocide

Is it any wonder that the leaders have lost their followers?

Good article, it gets to the point.

Drug manufacturers and suppliers are destroying hundreds of thousands of Americans, body and soul, to make money.

I take issue with that because it is a regulated industry.

The buck stops with the regulator, this is the result of government not working.

I don't buy that. These companies have human beings making decisions at the head of them. They choose to act recklessly and cost people their lives. I agree that the government needs to do much better, but I'm not letting drug companies off the hook.

I happened to catch that 60 Minutes piece Sunday night and it was excellent. Maybe there is hope for mainstream media yet?

As cynical as I am, that was some pretty blatant corruption displayed. Marino and a few others should be prosecuted for that.

Sure it is a regulated industry--that is very much the point.

And elected officials and former DEA employees conspired to make one tiny part of the regulations that was actually working and serving a somewhat beneficial purpose, no longer effective. They conspired to nullify the regulation and line their pockets with money made from the misery of other people. And of course the silver-tongued POTUS signed off on it without a single word of objection, after our Illustrious Congress repealed the effective legislation.

If those men could be given a proper trial and convicted, I would volunteer to be the hangman for their execution.
