Comey drafted letter on Clinton email investigation before completing interviews, FBI confirms

You have no idea how the real world works, do you?

Perhaps for some cons a graduation above "do you want fries with that" may give some education.

Ok. Were there also drafts calling for indictments? For your politically convenient excuse to be plausible there would be drafts for both sides. I know when drafting closing arguments you do so with the testimony for the last few witnesses going bad or good, but you prepare for it to go both ways, not just one. Especially if your job is to be an impartial investigator and not a lawyer for the defense.

Non-partisan, non-political response: Who in their professional lives hasn't drafted letters supporting opposing conclusions? It saves a great deal of time and truthfully it is much easier to draft the letters ahead of time and edit the appropriate letter when the moment comes, as it inevitably will.

I'm not sure I ever have. I've definitely written refutations in a rough draft, but I don't think I've prepared two or three alternative versions.

Yeah, okay keep telling yourself that. He was only innocently drafting a letter, TO LET HER OFF THE HOOK. The investigation wasn't even over.

Comey was working on a conclusion before the investigation was over. That could prejudice the investigation for everyone under him.

As no Dems on the Judiciary have squawked about this timeline, I think we can assume it's correct.
So I'll grant the Fox News article was ok to say it was proved.

Saying he was 'working on a conclusion' might be overly general

At a House hearing last September, Comey vehemently denied any decision had been made not to charge Clinton before the July 2 interview. He was not asked when he began preparing his public statement.

"If colleagues of ours believe I am lying about when I made this decision, please urge them to contact me privately so we can have a conversation about this," Comey said. "All I can do is tell you again, the decision was made after that because I didn't know what was going to happen in that interview."

The FBI has been a rotten egg since J Edgar ran it. Nothing has changed. I'm really surprised they would have released this draft. Maybe it was an error?

Those who believe the FBI to be pure and honest will do anything to rationalize their dissonant beliefs.

There is a question as to what was actually written by Comey before the end of the investigation.
The actual documents need to be provided to Congress for review. That might solve the mystery.

Senator Grassley and Graham have requested the materiel.

“Conclusion first, fact-gathering second — that’s no way to run an investigation,” Grassley and Graham wrote the FBI in August, seeking more information about Comey’s drafts.

Then you agree with me.

The investigation wasn't close to done, he shouldn't have been working on anything of the sort.

It of course is possible that was the reason, however, we also know that he didn't review the information from which he was basing the letter he actually sent to congress on. It is more likely he had a pre-notion that Clinton was guilty and so was drafting memos to this. I'll give you we don't know for certain (I'm sure comey will deny it), but given his actions I would definitely lean towards him having a pre-notion and moving forward with it.

This isn't a smoking gun for sure though.

You have yet to do it, I'm waiting.

Last week. Another thread you got your butt kicked and were shown the door. Proof, one not need to post threads of substance to be a mod.

Tell me, your assuming Comey had some intent with that letter. Were is your proof he was colluding? How many threads you started in reference to Trump and Jr lying about there Russian collusion? Or are you as partisan as we all believe.

May of 2016, election coming up. They had seen the emails, apparently the general consensus was they were benign. I'm sure he felt some presser to get out the results ASAP.

You can't stand when I ignore you, can ya?

The emails were known to have classified data in them; that is NEVER benign. With Lynch throwing doubt into the integrity of the investigation (sorry, the "matter"), there is plenty of doubt that Comey acted with pure integrity. The tarmac meeting between Lynch and Bill Clinton ended any belief this investigation was on the up and up. But we who know about classification of data, always knew what Comey did stunk to high heaven. The average citizen is ignorant about how classified data is classified, who has classification authority and the regulations against leakage. Hillary Clinton knew damn well what she was doing, and it's wasn't wiping a server with a cloth. Her office in the State Dept is a SCIF, and that's why they would leave the office with their phones to communicate stuff they should over her Blackberry as well. Only Obama had a secure Blackberry. She shirked her duties as a govt employee for subterfuge and convenience because of her Clinton arrogance, and disregard for rules. She refused to use her secure email account because you can't connect that to a private server, so she had people remove classified headers off of email so it could be supposedly made unclassified. Well that just doesn't cut in the classified environment, and Comey damn well knows it!

Have you always been this partisan ? :lamo. You have been served by the best, you are dismissed

When put next to the Bill Clinton/Loretta Lynch airplane meeting, you have to admit it does raise some questions

This reminds me of how every year people claim the super bowl was fixed because the winning team had "super bowl champion" shirts already produced before the game started.

Except in this case only one shirt was printed and fedex scheduled.
