Trump: We cannot aid Puerto Rico 'forever'

Does Trump know he is the president of Puerto Rico? I think somebody needs to explain this to him, and I am not joking.

They'll have to explain it to him after he meets with, the President of the Virgin Islands."

Trump says he spoke to US Virgin Islands' 'president' -- which is him

President Donald Trump accidentally referred to the US Virgin Islands' governor as their President during a speech Friday -- even though he is technically their President.

"I will tell you I left Texas and I left Florida and I left Louisiana and I went to Puerto Rico and I met with the President of the Virgin Islands," he told the audience of the Values Voter Summit in Washington.

Because she is speaking for the entire island, not just San Juan. Really, how hard has that been to understand?

Because she is part of the Clinton's inner circle and cannot be trusted to report truthfully where a Republican is concerned. She is all about the left's efforts to make PR Trump's Katrina, and she has the MSM behind here ginning up fake news. Typical "Blue State" mismanagement.

How Aid Is Being Delivered To Those In Need In Puerto Rico : NPR

BTW, where is PR's advance planning? The are in a hurricane corridor and act has if they are immune to disaster and all they have to do is to pick up the phone and phone in a aid order.

He's absolutely right.

Puerto Rico was bankrupt with over 100 Billion dollars in debt BEFORE Maria hit and billions of dollars in unfunded pension liabillities.

Their massive debt led to the deterioration of their infrastructure that was in bad shape priot to the storm.

Decades of Political corruption and ineptitiude led to their debt crisis and their failing infrastructure.

I have no issue with assistance tied to Maria, but their debt and the consequences of decades of mismanagment is their problem and the American tax payer shouldnt be on the hook for it

Much of what you say is true. However, Puerto Rico's debt problem isn't as simple as poor infrastructure or defaulting on pension plans. Their plight can be blamed primarly on the U.S. tax code. This article from Investopedia pretty much outlines how Puerto Rico got into their financial mess. You can blame their financial problems on tax shelters that were convenient for wealthy investors...until they weren't anymore. There are other problems, such a dwindling/aging population, but the island no longer being a tax shelter has contributed to their largest debt woes.

I thought Hillary Clinton had committed all these crimes?....Was going to be indicted?....Oh yeah you believed all the fake News Bull****

It wasn't easy to nail Gotti and Capone either.

What a bunch of ungrateful people in Puerto Rico. They didn't invest in infrastructure over the last fifty years and it is easier
to bash the President than be thankful for the aid they are receiving.

Yeah people in Texas and Florida didn't want any Government handouts did they?.....Oh yeah they asked for Hundreds of Millions...you must have forgot about that...Right?

 I know. I was actually thinking that he didn't know he is the president of Puerto Rico, and then he confirmed that he didn't know he was the president of the Virgin Islands.

Well, what the hell? Talk about unqualified, we did worse in ‘08 and ‘12. Trump is an upgrade.

How is Trump an upgrade? The economy grew under Obama and still is, he fulfilled a democratic goal with healthcare, one that dated from Truman, so that the GOP has accepted government's roll to provide it, he, together with our allies, put together an agreement with Iran that even Trump says they are living up to, and he did it without insulting our allies, women and various ethnic groups. It's a measure of Trump's vindictiveness that he trashes a treaty that he says is working and is deliberately trying to make Obamacare fail, merely because of its first three syllables.

And, of course, he lies shamelessly and is an international embarrassment.

Did he ever achieve a measly 3% growth? No. So he sucked there.
...he fulfilled a democratic goal with healthcare...
Yes, not an American goal, or a capitalist goal. A democrat socialist goal. Another fail. Thanks so much for that disaster.
so that the GOP has accepted government's roll to provide it
Correction; It's not government's role.
he, together with our allies, put together an agreement with Iran...
That assures them nuclear weapons, puts our allies at risk, and us at risk. And almost guarantees a war for our kids to fight. Not just a fail, one of the biggest blunders in American history. I pray we can get out of this one.

I guess you missed his excellent speech that laid out how dangerous and not working it is.

Well, Obama is synonymous with failure, and although it doesn't need any help failing, the sooner we are rid of it the better.

And, of course, he lies shamelessly and is an international embarrassment.
Kind of funny that you mention Obamacare and then talk about Trump lying.

Not an American or capitalist goal? Where were you when we celebrated 50 years of Medicare/Medicaid? And the VA? Is there a capitalist country that doesn't provide government healthcare in some form or other?

And of course Obama was foolish to do the Iran deal... as were China, the UK, France, Germany and Russia. How did the leaders of so many countries fall into such a trap. But then, some of them have government healthcare, so what can you expect?

I saw no celebrations. And exactly what is the point of such a statement?
And the VA? Is there a capitalist country that doesn't provide government healthcare in some form or other?
Thanks for bringing up the VA, an example of government healthcare, and a complete disaster.

Yes, that was already pointed out. Those other countries are now making tons of money off this deal by selling all kinds of things to Iran.

Don't understand... you said -- at least I think you meant -- that govt had no business in healthcare, and I pointed out the success of government programs such as Medicare/Medicaid. As to the VA, I assume it will be fixed or replaced if necessary. But it seems to hat every country, capitalist/socialist combos that we all are, makes efforts in this area. Did I miss something?

Yes, that was already pointed out. Those other countries are now making tons of money off this deal by selling all kinds of things to Iran.

And so can we. Happened with Nixon and China, can happen with Iran I suppose. Could also happen with Cuba, if we stopped carrying the useless Cold War grudge.

The point is not to make money, it's to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons, for obvious reasons.

Isn't that why we and all those other countries agreed to the treaty?

And who is paying those taxes? Not really States, is it? It's the rich people in this country.

This analysis revealed a lot of surprising conclusions, including the following:

Today's government spending levels are indeed too high, at least relative to the average level of tax revenue the government has generated over the past 60 years. Unless Americans are willing to radically increase the amount of taxes they pay relative to GDP, government spending must be cut.

Today's income tax rates are strikingly low relative to the rates of the past century, especially for rich people. For most of the century, including some boom times, top-bracket income tax rates were much higher than they are today.

Contrary to what Republicans would have you believe, super-high tax rates on rich people do not appear to hurt the economy or make people lazy: During the 1950s and early 1960s, the top bracket income tax rate was over 90%--and the economy, middle-class, and stock market boomed.

Super-low tax rates on rich people also appear to be correlated with unsustainable sugar highs in the economy--brief, enjoyable booms followed by protracted busts. They also appear to be correlated with very high inequality. (For example, see the 1920s and now).

Periods of very low tax rates have been followed by periods with very high tax rates, and vice versa. So history suggests that tax rates will soon start going up.

We haven't agreed to any treaty with them.

Ok, it wasn't a treaty... an agreement, protocol, a "lets keep in touch"... whatever. Other countries went along, seemed to be ok with it. We told them to talk and we'd ease sanctions. They talked, we did. If Trump has an alternative plan, I haven't heard it.
Seems like the reason for his opposition is the same as with Obamacare, the climate treaty... anything Obama did, the boy king has to dismantle.

I'm sure this has nothing to do with it:

Nope, nothing whatsoever. Move along, move along.

Obama and these guys got together, made a deal, but no treaty. I think it is important to remember that Obama went ahead with this on his own, knowing that it would be rejected, not a chance of passing. There's a process built into the Constitution for this, and it's no secret. Not sure why he thought he could go and make such a major deal like this on his own.

The worst part about it is that the sanctions were working, and Obama threw them a lifeline with the release of billions of dollars to them. Just an incredibly stupid, horrible screw up.

It probably has to do with the people in Texas coming together to help themselves and Puerto Rico being represented by a whiny, useless, complaining mayor of San Juan making them look like they just want a hand out. She's the last person they should have had speaking out for them.

Uh last checked the "people" of Texas have been whining and crying about wanting Millions in Federal aid to re-build their house on the same flood plain

Stop blaming the messenger until you learn exactly how bad the situation is in Puerto Rico. Most of their power grid won't even be restored until December.

EDIT: And these are a small sample of the kinds of challenges that Puerto Rico is dealing with.

So much the worse for the idiot mayor to speak out like she has. Get someone that can articulate the situation, not a whining complainer that makes the peope look bad.

Really? I haven't seen anyone that has been the equal of the mayor of San Juan. Got a link to something you'd like to share?
