California lowers penalty for knowingly exposing partners to HIV

The law previously punished people who knowingly exposed or infected others with HIV by up to eight years in prison. This new legislation will lower jail time to a maximum of six months.

The new law also reduces the penalty for knowingly donating HIV-infected blood from a felony to a misdemeanor.

California can't sink into the Pacific fast enough.

This as the state fights through a massive Hep outbreak thanks mostly to poor local leadership.

Makes one wonder if everyone in Cali just too stoned to demand better...

You must really love California.

Wow. Did anyone find out why? Like, what was the reasoning behind it?

California is a national embarassment, and a great example of just how backwards and destructive the Leftist ideology is when its applied on a large scale.

The key word in both of these situations is "knowingly". Having unprotected sex knowing you're HIV positive should be a felony and carry a long sentence. Knowing you're HIV positive and donating blood should also carry a stiff felony sentence. This is premeditation. The law should never have been reduced so far. California is a mess.

Doesn't make sense to me, but perhaps they found that the 8 year sentence was no more likely than a 6 month sentence to discourage people from committing the crime?
