Los Angeles (AFP) - California became the first "sanctuary state" for undocumented immigrants Friday, a decision criticized by the Trump administration which believes the move will compromise security.California's governor, Democrat Jerry Brown, signed the landmark legislation -- Senate Bill 54 (SB54) -- which grants better protections to people who are in the US without permission, including those who have committed crimes.

And you wonder why the GOP has gained in so many areas of Government....

The reaction from ICE isn't a shocker.

The country's top immigration cop said Friday his agents "will have no choice" but to conduct workplace and neighborhood immigration raids in light of California's new sanctuary law.Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Thomas Homan said in a statement Friday that California Gov. Jerry Brown's (D) decision to sign the law, SB54, would "undermine public safety and hinder ICE from performing its federally mandated mission."

I wonder...is this the first step down that road to the dissolution of the United States?

Or has that step already been taken via the ever-widening divide and obvious balkanization which occurred after November's results?

Perhaps it began long before when being different and diverse became more important than the ties of common language and core beliefs that were supposed to bind us as a united nation...

Time will tell I guess.

SCOTUS is going to eventually have to man up and save the republic.

I think it goes back to the Reagan era, the animosity towards him, started a path of divisiveness that really started to split the country up. Clinton pushed his triangulation and balkanized the country in terms of politics and well... it's gotten worse every cycle.

It feels like we are moving closer and closer to another civil war. Protests are one thing but refusal to obey laws is quite another.

Imagine if texas told the gov they would not honor gay marriages after the Fed's said they must or Georgia closed all the abortion clinics.

Dissolution and civil war are far beyond this matter. Really?

The Feds do not pay cities or states to enforce federal law. Most federal law is also state law. Not so involving immigration. Those cities and states would rather spend enforcement dollars on other matters, like rape and murder, than immigration violation. It is not wise to rob Peter’s violent crime budget to pay for Paul’s immigration enforcement. Especially when there are no data to support that the simple violation of immigration law is violent, or that those whom violate immigration law are any more violent than others.

California is protecting residents that have done no wrong but for simply being here and whom make positive contribution to the world’s eighth largest economy.

You missed the part about even those that have committed ither crimes aside just breaking the law coming here...

Personally i think ice should give california exactly what they want by leaving the staye entirely. Let californa handle it all by themselves.

That's what the backward state deserves. I have a brother in law that lives in Reno, NV and he jokes that when the "big one" hits California and it starts to break away from the rest of the union, that he's going to grab his crow bar and help pry it away.

I can certainly agree with his sentiment.

But is it legal? I mean, the illegals can go anywhere from there.

Have done nothing wrong ? Other than violating our immigration laws, you mean

And California's a basket case. Theyre essentially bankrupt and have the largest unfunded pension liabillities and retirement liabilities in the Nation. Well over 600 Billion dollars.

Cali also has the highest child poverty rate in the Nation, is home to 1/3 of our Nations welfare recipients and its Cities have the largest population of chronic homeless residents in the Nation.

Its idiot Leftist politicians are commiting that State to slow suicide by inviting in more and more dependents whil chasing off its middleclass, its bussinesses and it tax base to other States.

I always thought you believed in smaller Federal government, and states rights. Damn, you sure had me fooled for a while.

I always knew you were a troll who never made a valid point. I am for smaller government and states rights, but I'm ALSO, and here's the part where your troll falls apart, for law and order. That means you don't enter the country illegally, and if you commit MORE crimes you need to be tossed the **** out.

Cali has screw that jazz, you come here illegally, we got your back, commit crimes? Eh who cares!?!

See that's the bigger problem, but for you to admit that, would ruin that pathetic attempt at snark.

That’s not such a bad idea. And use the money saved to beef up bordering states’ enforcement.

So you like judicial activism?

Judicial Activism is when a judge or a court makes partisan law or rules for the sake of the rule. See Roe Vs Wade, whether you agree with the outcome, the process was fubar legally. That is judicial activism.

Having the SCOTUS smack down out of control legislatures to adhere to the Constitution is doing their jobs.

Don't use terms you have no clue what they mean.

Immigration is actually one of the jobs given over to the federal government. You can't have states letting whoever they want into the country. That's just plain silly.

It's basically nullification, which I've seen many conservatives here cheer for loudly.

For example, how would you feel if Texas declared that the ACA was nullified in Texas?

Law and order? You mean like allowing states to suppress the black vote? Yea, concepts like states rights and law and order are cool with you when they suit YOUR agenda.
