JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Federal agents are trying to determine why a man pulled over for speeding in Tennessee was carrying a cache of weapons including two submachine guns and 900 rounds of ammunition.

Deputies found Scott Edmisten, 43, of Johnson City, carrying a .357-caliber Magnum, a loaded .45-caliber semi-automatic, a .223-caliber fully automatic assault rifle, a .308-caliber fully automatic assault rifle, more than 900 rounds of ammunition, and survival equipment, Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal said.

Looks like luck intervened when a routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a man who was travelling with machine guns (with serial numbers filed off) and ammo. Was another mass shooting about to go down?

Until you said serial numbers filed off, I thought "sounds like range day."

900 rounds isn't a whole lot, especially for 4 different guns on range day.

Edit: Whoa, modified to be automatic how? If illegally, throw the book at this ****er.

He was probably on his way home from a store after getting Skittles and Arizona Ice Tea. Nothing to see here. Move along. Random men running around with 100s of rounds, machetes, knives and no real reason is nothing to be concerned by.

Sounds like he will get charged with at least a few felony's. Glad he decided to speed and the officer took him into custody.

Deputies said Edmisten was going 55 mph in a 30 mph zone. Had no drivers license.

While taking an inventory of the vehicle, they discovered a loaded .357 magnum, a loaded .45 semi automatic, a fully automatic AR rifle in .223 caliber, a fully automatic AR rifle in .308 caliber, over 900 rounds of ammunition, and survival equipment.

Neither of the fully automatic rifles were registered or had serial numbers.

I was going to make the same point. When I go to the range I usually have a couple hundred rounds and that's for just one gun.

Hell when we were kids and you could buy .22 ammo for a penny a round we'd often pick up 1000-1500 rounds of .22 ammo on the way to the range. Shoot a third and save the other 2/3rds for subsequent range trips.

Mass shooting ? Doubt it, no reason to file down serial numbers if that were the case.
Mass shooters rarely make it out alive, but no doubt they were going to find themselves into the wrong hands

was actually a can of Arizona Watermelon Fruit Juice Cocktail

Or maybe the AR platforms that aren't registered and don't have serial numbers were shop built. They wouldn't require serial numbers.

Or, he has a manufacturer's license which would allow him to build and possess an automatic weapon.

It wouldn't suprise me if that was omitted from the article.

I shoot mostly 22, the Federal bulk box of 500 used to be like $25 bucks too. 500 sounds like a lot to people who don't know firearms but you could palm the little box.

Nah he was just going to Walmart and excercising his 2nd amendment rights. Probably just going to pick up another AR-15 and a couple of 1000 more rounds of ammo. You can't be too prepared!

Yup. This was back in the 70s when that 500 round box cost all of $5. Between my brother and I we could easily go through the entire box in 3-4 hours at the range on the sunny Sunday.

Actually, he got into a fight with the cops. That's probably what led to finding the weapons.

My exact thoughts.

Now. If we were serious, he would get twenty years in jail, and it’d be on the front page of every newspaper.
For the illegal guns, I'd say mandatory minimums would be pretty appropriate.

When i go to the outdoor range I typically have about 600-900 rounds depending on what weapons I bring. The filing off of serial numbers is disturbing though.

We start here....then stretch it to there...run a cable down to Australia...over the great barrier reef, up next to some islands....then connect to a little noodle parlor in China....then on to Hawaii, up to Alaska just to take the scenic rout, stretch it over to Toronto and with the last few thousand remaining miles connect it to Trayvon Martin in some weird race baiting slant.

Very creative! Well played!

Al Sharpton give it....

The article doesn't say the serial numbers were filed off. The one AR is uncoated, so it suggests it's an 80% receiver that doesn't require a serial number.

Speeding while possessing felonious contraband, AND no D/L?

What a total fuknut!

Or destined for a sale in a gun banned city. The likes of what Chicago see's.

Going to Chicago, via Johnson City, Tennessee. :lamo

If they are machine guns they require serial numbers and are required to be registered with the ATF.
