It’s the future of fast food bytes in the Big Apple.Robots will replace humans and cash won’t be accepted at a soon-to-open Shake Shack in the East Village, reps for the popular burger chain said Monday.
Customers will place orders via an app and at touch-screen kiosks inside the restaurant, which is scheduled to open an Astor Place branch later this month, according to company CEO Randy Garutti.
Workers dubbed “hospitality champs” will guide diners through possible tech glitches as they place orders at the kiosks, which only accept credit cards.

I love the term "Hospitality Champs", for some reason that amuses the hell out of me.

"Computer Technology Wizard" may look a bit better on their resume than "Hospitality Champ".

I just imagine Junior coming home saying "I got a job!" and everyone asking he says "I'm a hospitality champ!" When the family looks at him funny and asks "WTF is that" he can proudly say "I help stupid people use computers!"

A Macdonald's near me using the order kiosks along with a till person (just one till). Unlike any Mcdonalds I have been at before if you stay in they will bring the food to you at your table. The kiosks have not really reduced labour at this place, just allowed them to be redirected for better customer service

I think people do not understand that raising the minimum wage, makes robots more economical.
Buckey's has been using the ordering Kiosks for a few years, a limited menu, but seems to work good.

I think people do understand that automation will happen robots are becoming more economical/capable, but choose to ignore that fact so they can make dishonest attacks on their perceived political enemies.

I was in an Arby's recently and asked for a double meat rueben sandwich. I was told that the promotion period is over and we don't make that anymore. I explained that you still sell a rueben sandwich, you still have a trained professional to add the meat ingredient to that sandwich and I can assure you that they still remember how do that step twice if asked nicely - so the only problem is your inability to charge me an appropriate price because the "double meat" button is no longer on your cashier terminal.

LOL, and wtf is wrong with you? Reuben's are NASTY.

Nowadays you have to get a bachelors degree and make $9 an hour in some cubicle hell. It's called "tech support".

Sounds like bad job searches to me. I don't have a degree, don't work in a cubicle, I make far more than that...

That may be so, but I wanted double NASTY and the human was unable to override the wishes of the machine which they let control them. If Subway, which employs similar (unable to think for themselves?) workers, can manage to allow single meat (regular), meat and a half (deluxe) or double meat options on their sandwiches then the difference is in having management that is intelligent enough to allow its customers to make simple choices.

It's the thousand island dressing, that is nearly as gross as Ranch, but on a sammich, it's doubly so. I don't disagree with your point however on the stupid of companies and people.

Depends on where you live and the current conditions. If you live in an area with a small tech sector but a large population, the worker competition drives everything down so that employers can exploit to their heart's content. Have you ever applied to a job alongside 600 other people?

I'm in San Antonio, we're a fast growing tech market, hell within half a mile of my residence Microsoft is building the biggest server farm in North America for cloud computing.

Until you're replaced by a robot.

H NO, we should kill all robots, I might have to find new employment, new skills... automation and machines have never forced people to do that before!!!

Arby's is quite happy to omit any ingredient that they already made you pay for.

I like to think we can replace the majority of the lesser humans with machines. You'll need to keep the scientists, mathematicians, high end engineers, programmers, etc. But the vast majority of you humans are completely replaceable with cold, logical machinery.

Nothing says "hate" like the dreams of elitists...

Let's look at the timeline, shall we...

Minimum wage increases.

Big businesses start rolling out automated machines.

There are hundreds of articles from all media sources suddenly talking about how AI and robotics are going to replace all labor and we should get used to it.

No, there's no industry collusion in our country. None at all.

Nothing says "hate" like the dreams of elitists...

It's not hate, it's efficiency. You humans get so emotional about things, you can't see the mean from the mode.

Weren't you laughing at fast food workers getting replaced the other day? Now that it's your job suddenly it's not fair?
