Robots are replacing fast food workers at new Shake Shack

Let's look at the timeline, shall we...

Minimum wage increases.

Big businesses start rolling out automated machines.

There are hundreds of articles from all media sources suddenly talking about how AI and robotics are going to replace all labor and we should get used to it.

No, there's no industry collusion in our country. None at all.

It’s impossible for robots to replace all labor.

A Macdonald's near me using the order kiosks along with a till person (just one till). Unlike any Mcdonalds I have been at before if you stay in they will bring the food to you at your table. The kiosks have not really reduced labour at this place, just allowed them to be redirected for better customer service

It’s almost like the whole theory of the division of labor making things more efficient is true.

I was at the McDonalds in Israel. They all got kiosks. Some poor girl had to stand there with the guy in front of me and literally touch the screen for him. It was so painful to watch. I almost pity people that need that kind of hand holding.

I like to think we can replace the majority of the lesser humans with machines. You'll need to keep the scientists, mathematicians, high end engineers, programmers, etc. But the vast majority of you humans are completely replaceable with cold, logical machinery.

Working with every one of those types of people on almost a daily basis, I would love to see them actually try to fix a machine when it breaks.

They'd do a lot better job than the guy making the fries, lol.

Weren't you laughing at fast food workers getting replaced the other day? Now that it's your job suddenly it's not fair?

What? the ****... are you on about hoss?

It's not my job, not worried about my job, said clearly a post before or was it after.. that one I would adapt no problem.
So, maybe reading isn't a strong thing with you?

To replace all labor in the next decade it's improbable. In the next 25 years, it inevitable.

You took offense to people being replaced by machines so I assumed you were one of them, and you indicated that you were. I have no doubt you intend to adapt, but we really don't know how it's going to go. It could get very ugly.

I'm not taking offense, **** changes. Adapt or get run over.

One of the problems we're seeing is that there might not be anything to adapt to. This is one of the reasons why a universal basic income has been proposed.

Universal basic income is a toss out bribe to appease the masses of idiots that believe they are forever stuck as being low class, right where the elitist left wants them, forever in their debt, and forever where they belong.

Hmmm, there was a thread awhile ago where someone explained that it was not illegal to refuse US Legal tender for transactions (cash), but I always think that it should be neigh required to take cash.

Robots are coming for all your jobs anyway.

Not too long ago, currency said on it that it was legal tender for all debts, public and private. It no longer says that. You may be correct.

A Micky D's near me is using a drink machine fed by the order computer, The first person to touch the drink is the one handing it through the window. Robots are here to stay.

Depends on where you live and the current conditions. If you live in an area with a small tech sector but a large population, the worker competition drives everything down so that employers can exploit to their heart's content. Have you ever applied to a job alongside 600 other people?

Dump truck drivers make $17.00 an hour. Get a CDL.

absent some sort of apocalyptic dive back into the dark ages, many highly skilled jobs will be also automated eventually. in most of these threads, i see some folks cheering it because they get their jollies pointing and laughing at food workers who want to make more money for their labor. it generally reminds me of someone who lives a block away from the beach laughing that the hurricane just took out the beachfront houses.

I think people do not understand that raising the minimum wage, makes robots more economical.
Buckey's has been using the ordering Kiosks for a few years, a limited menu, but seems to work good.
I completely understand that it does.

I still think the min wage should be raised though.

You may want to read up on what's coming. We're talking ~60% of jobs gone in the next 15-20 years. Perhaps we can re-purpose half of them if we're lucky, what about the other half? It's going to be grueling.

I work from home now, did tech support many years ago. Driving jobs are one of the first that are going to be gone, many of them in the next 5 years.

Self-driving trucks will be a thing soon?

LMAO..................not in your lifetime.

The first time some driverless truck kills 20 people.

Show me a driverless truck that can find it's way up a logging road, or sand pit, or obstacles to avoid at the dump site.

Get real!

They already are. They're just working out the kinks and getting them to be 100% automated in all conditions. It's important that they are basically perfect so they have to test, test, test, test.

They're already far safer than human drivers overall. The hard part is like what you're describing. Complex scenarios in which it needs to properly read all the information and make the right decisions every time.

Please respond next time you have the facts.

Even if you have to have a driver there for backup, an automated driving system has to be less stressful for the driver over time, what with not needing to shift, steer, or use pedals and other controls most of the time.

Less accident possibility?
