Negative reaction to protests leads Ravens' anthem singer to resign

The first three posts read as if the speakers think he's resigning because the protests didn't make him feel welcome. That certainly seems to be the insinuation in their posts. I hope they are not asserting that because that would be false.

The combat vet is resigning because of the fans' negative reactions to the protests. He's fine with the protests.

"He later added another post to his Instagram account to clarify his initial post: “Fans who attack players for protesting, (a right in which I fought to defend) but are simply not interested in understanding why, is the reason I am resigning.”"

Ravens national anthem singer Joey Odoms, a combat veteran, informs team he is resigning - Baltimore Sun

Of course, the article from the OP never actually said he was resigning because the protests made him feel unwelcome. It just sounds like those responsible for the first three posts wanted that to be the reason, so they assumed it without trying to dig any further. I doubted it and dug further.

At least I hope they were just careless. If they knew the real reason he was resigning was the nasty reaction by people to the protests but nonetheless pretended otherwise, their posts would be straight-up dishonesty.

What the singer and the players should take away from this is that both can be easily replaced. And they will.

Another one who is either making unfounded assumptions or is being purposefully dishonest.

Observe:

When the going gets tough it's time to quit. I doubt that many of the highly (over?) paid NFL athletes will choose this path.

So he added a new post to clarify his first post! OK.... The NFL has completely screwed this up and better fix it fast.

Not a deflection. Your side of the argument is intent of alienating as many NFL fans as possible... if I can attribute your words and actions to consciously considered.

There is also the possibility that the actions of that side are ill considered and unintentionally destructive.

Not intent on anything of the sort, your propaganda is piss poor.

Your side has tried to turn this into some protest against the anthem or flag, but it's nothing of the sort. That's dumb propaganda meant to deride the actual argument to be had. The few people who had been kneeling were not protesting the anthem. But we've got to be all up in arms against something I suppose, that way we aren't quite paying attention to GOP's healthcare failures, the deteriorating state of NK relations, and a half dozen other things we likely should be paying attention to.

I swear, if a few football players kneeling during the anthem were truly our biggest concern, we'd be sitting pretty.

The faux outrage is just stupid and distracting.

Make your players say and do exactly what we want them to or we'll watch another pro football league!!!

Or college girls softball, or John Wayne reruns. Pro soccer's kinda fun. Or maybe play catch with the kiddos.

Are you claiming that we cannot get along without pro football? I can.

And now conservatives have become liberals. They scream at the top of their lungs their outrage until company X fires group Y for "offensive" issue Z. Do conservatives hate freedom of speech now? That's how this was marketed all the other times by conservatives: Free speech.

Seriously, who was that lady that actually BROKE THE LAW to protest at her work? The lady that refused to give marriage licenses to gays?

This lady refused to do her actual job as a protest and you'd think she was nominated for sainthood

Right after his mom brought him his coffee milk.

He should have taken a knee during the anthem instead of resigning.

I expect that would go over very well

Lets get serious for a moment and set aside accusations and negativity.
We'll have to see how this turns out. If I understand it correctly, the singer didn't resign because he is against kneeling during the anthem, so lets not take this cart and run it in the wrong direction.
Let America speak, just as they did during the Chick-fil-A debacle.
I just hope that both sides will sit together and talk, will air their grievances and work toward a solution.
I am sick and tired of division, of hatred, of accusations of hatred and bigotry. NFL players play for themselves, they play for all of us, black, white, brown, conservative and liberal. What they are doing doesn't bring out nation together by any means. However, we should realize the seriousness of their concerns, open our arms and invite productive dialogue.

Then he would be a fascist asshole just like the kneelatards.

You don't expect people to read and understand what they are reacting to, do you? I mean, look at the whole NFL brouhaha where people are presenting their propaganda as if the protest is against the Flag or the Anthem? It's absolutely NOT what this is all about, but people do not take the time to think; they just react. It's not like we punish stupid in this country.

Tell that to the protesting players. They are boycotting the flag, the anthem, and the country over an issue which has nothing to do with any of those issues.

They're not boycotting the flag or the anthem.

I don't think you know what fascist actually means, if you believe that kneeling during the anthem makes one a fascist

Forcing people to stand during the anthem however is a much closer trait to fascism

I don't think it is our biggest concern either. I think the response by the NFL, the teams and the players has made their position considerably worse. It is more a case study in bad business models. When your customers decide they don't support your product anymore the sane response is not to tell them they are wrong. So much of the sporting world seems to not understand this though. The NFL and ESPN especially seem not understand this very simple truth.

As I have said, I largely given up on the NFL and ESPN years ago. They can't really lose me as a customer at this point. It would be nice if players and teams could keep their politics to press conferences and off-the-field events and we could come together as players and fans for the love of the sport on Sundays. But the sense of entitlement by the players, teams and reporters to my money and attention will need to be broken first and I don't see that happening without the league committing suicide first.

The last time something like this happened with me was with the NHL lockout in 2012/2013. I was struck at that point by how little the ownership and players actually cared about their fans and the product they were selling, and I just walked away. The following year I did the same with the NFL. I still enjoy baseball at this point but that can always change.

The funny thing, though, is that I would guess that Baseball is to liberalism what Football is to Conservatism. I would bet the majority of baseball fans are liberal.. and yet that is the last place I would expect to see a widespread protest of the National Anthem.

Yes they are. They are not standing in front of a police station protesting police brutality, if that's even their issue. They are refusing to respect the flag, the anthem, and the country for which they stand.

Are they going to fire entire teams? What are they going to do?

The NFL had turned its back on its customers and fans long ago, and it had nothing to do with politics. It had everything to do with stuffing as many dollars in their pockets even at the expense of the game.

There were a handful of players kneeling during the anthem. It wasn't until Trump ran his mouth in stupid tweets that the response grew. And that's negative reaction to Trump's terrible tweets.

I agree but, obviously, that would have taken more guts and would have gotten him personally booed.

What law did she break?

No they're not. They are not calling for a ban on the anthem or flag, they are not calling to end the anthem being sung at the beginning of the games. They are not protesting the flag and anthem proper. That's stupid propaganda meant to hide what they were protesting and to get people to respond emotionally instead of intelligently in order to fan the flames of the faux outrage.

It means anything I want it to mean. See? I can make words mean what I want, just like the Liberals do.

Well, no, he has not shown or said he is "angered". That is another false statement.

He said quite clearly that the fans' nasty reaction to the protest made him feel unwelcome.

Again, the word was "unwelcome". He doesn't say he's pissed off at them. He just feels unwanted so he'll go do something else. Let's not put words in people's mouths and them call them hypocrites based on the words they never said.
100% correct
lol yep aways funny when posters get caught lying and making stuff up.

It means anything I want it to mean. See? I can make words mean what I want, just like the Liberals do.

I see you are still the most honest and respected poster on DP

So, who cares what the actual athletes say, you just want to be angry and pissy.
