Collins to vote 'no' on Graham-Cassidy bill, likely killing latest Obamacare repeal

Re: Collins to vote 'no' on Graham-Cassidy bill, likely killing latest Obamacare repe

And my alternative is what?

The candidate that isn't running on the platform that government doesn't work. This has always been a euphemism for "I don't know how to govern and have absolutely no intention of learning how to do it. If you keep falling for the "small government" routine, you will always get this dysfunction.

Besides, there have been over twenty years of Republicans claiming that the Democrats' plans for reforming healthcare have been awful for this reason or that, but have shown zero proclivity or desire for coming up with an alternate plan in spite of claiming that healthcare reform is in fact important to them. This should have been a sign that they were never the party for tackling this issue. So if healthcare reform is an important topic for you, then anybody running under a)the GOP and b)the platform of "small government will not be suitable candidates for you to vote for.

The bill would have been far more attractive, though still poor, if it had decided to stay on the track of the ACA rather than go after base Medicaid.

The problem is, out of nowhere, gutting Medicaid has become the solidified priority of the Republican Party. No one campaigned on it, it threatens so many conservative state efforts to make a dent in reducing the burden of prisons and institutional care on their budgets, and it's just completely ineffective and inhumane healthcare policy.

Which means the Tea Party candidates that swept into power in 2010 would have been automatic no votes.

Whoops. Missed your edit.

I think that oversimplifies it. Though it had been an issue starting in 2012-2013, it struck no one's radar. There was no campaign to restructure Medicaid like there was social security. It just came out of nowhere, for no sensible policy reason. No one campaigned to gut Medicaid. No one.
Medicaid Expansion? Yeah, maybe. Medicaid? No.

I truly think this was the fault of Paul Ryan and the House GOP leadership.

If I cant have small government, the next best option would seem to be dysfunction. The democrats are experts at building the state, so there is no reason to vote for them.

Well, if dysfunction is your cup of tea, then at least you're being honest about it, and you can enter into future elections knowing what you're getting.

So you force college on them so they become indoctrinated Leftist weenies ? why not encourage trade or vocational training? Oh but I forgot, you Leftists frown upon anything that encourages REAL work.

You can go to many college for vocational training these days. I know a few vocational schools that partner with universities and channel students toward their programs. We really have advanced that much since America was great. You know, like the 1910s. When none of that existed.

Hell, even in HS many universities actively partner with school counselors to ensure students who would be better off in vocational training aren't given illusions about going to an university. Again, things which didn't exist the last time America was great.

Exactly. He has no political knowledge. He just said what the sheep wanted to hear, and they bought it. Hook, line and stinker.

Then he didn't deliver on a damn thing... and they still worship him.

Ideally I would like to see the government actually shrink in size. But that's not going to happen no matter which party holds power. Whats kind of funny is how people on the left get so uptight and angry when republican get in power. Its not like they actually do anything with it. They don't roll back government or cut spending or eliminate programs. They are placeholders until the next wave of liberals come along.

It would be one thing to say that government should be smaller, but ultimately that's not what people really want at the grassroots level. Were Republicans angry in 2016 because government was too small, or because it didn't operate as they wanted it to? Many were frustrated that government wasn't working for them. The dichotomy is particularly illustrated in those voters' desire for the country to head in a direction they want it to go, only to watch the people they sent to Washington unable to implement their agenda all that well because, as has been stressed, they don't know how to govern. The irony is that if Republicans want their agendas to actually pass, then they'll have to vote for expert elitists. The only problem is that real experts are moderated by their tendency to understand more than one side of a complicated issue, and then they are by that nature more...moderate.

 Right? Nothing he has promised, he has delivered. Nothing.

Now let's sit back and see how many blame this on Congress, or Hillary, or the fact that the moon is made of green cheese. Anything but the fact that he is an absolute idiot whose alligator ass overloaded his jaybird mouth.

Can't debate with people who think they know science better than scientists and know military better than the generals. Whatever the topic, they are sure to believe they are the experts on it... right after Rush tells them the correct talking point on the topic.

And Rush is an expert in what? Bueller? Bueller?

He's an expert in nothing but spewing division. That's it. He went to college for 2 semesters and dropped out. Flunked everything. And people are unashamedly putting all their eggs in his basket.

If I were president, I might consider appointing him to head up the chair on fixing our opiod epidemic. There's that topic he's a pro on.
