WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate intelligence committee on Tuesday canceled a closed-doors interview with President Donald Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen and called on him to appear before the panel in an open session, saying it was disappointed he released a statement despite a request that he refrain from public comment.

“As a result, we declined to move forward with today’s interview and will reschedule Mr. Cohen’s appearance before the committee in open session at a date in the near future,” the committee’s leaders, Republican Senator Richard Burr, and Democratic Senator Mark Warner, the vice chairman, said in a joint statement.

”The committee expects witnesses in this investigation to work in good faith with the Senate,” they said

See how this works is that the targets of government power are supposed to not defend themselves, and if we do they immediately grab for a bigger hammer.

This government is routinely abusive, particularly through the so-called justice system where prosecutors routinely use what ever tools they have at their disposal to pummel citizens into submission, what this committee of certainly one of the most useless and corrupt Senates in American history is doing is not unusual, it is rather SOP.

You don't tug on Supermans cape ... you don't spit into the wind ... you don't pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger and you don't mess around with Jim.

Maybe Cohen never head that song.

Or perhaps Cohen needs to listen to the Byrds doing "Turn Turn Turn". Its all about timing and picking your shot.

More likely he believes that the Founders were right, and refuses to submit to his own abuse at the hands of power..

Nothing there about a right to being interviewed in private? Though misleading Congress is a No No.
And without doubt he has a lawyer.

Noble. Most noble.

I learned long long ago that when the cop stops you for speeding the best thing to do is admit it and look contrite. Of course, if you like paying $200 to vent and then have your insurance rates even more - call him an asshole and let it rip all in the name of Alexander Hamilton, John Hancock, and the boys.

What's not mentioned is that they went ahead with the closed door session for a good 90 minutes before announcing it was "canceled" and that Cohen had voluntarily agreed to appear in an open session.

I especially loved this part of your quote

”The committee expects witnesses in this investigation to work in good faith with the Senate,” they said

As if they are operating in good faith.

Not to mention that considering how much public attention this has received, not one bit of this should be conducted behind closed doors. Let the public see exactly who the coachroaches are and are not.

Open investigation certainly would be seen as abusive by the right.
