Russia bombed location in Syria near where US troops were present

US troops were present when Russian warplanes bombed US backed anti-ISIS fighters in Syria on Saturday, two US officials told CNN, highlighting how close the two countries came to a major international incident. A team of US Special Operations Forces were advising US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces at the location the Russians struck in Deir Ezzor in eastern Syria, one US official said. US personnel were "at most a couple of miles" away from the where the bomb landed, the official added. The US troops provided medical care to members of the Syrian Democratic Forces that were wounded in the airstrike, an image of which was tweeted out by the coalition. The US-led coalition fighting ISIS, Operation Inherent Resolve, issued a statement Saturday saying "Russian munitions impacted a location known to the Russians to contain Syrian Democratic Forces and coalition advisers." A coalition official told CNN that the coalition denied a Russian military request to strike an area in the province of Deir Ezzor, as there were coalition advisers and US-backed Syrian forces there. But the Russians decided to carry out the strike anyway.

There exists a 'de-confliction' hotline between US and Russian commanders. Apparently, the Russians either aren't listening or they don't care.

The US was not invited into Syria, no right to arm terrorists in a sovereign nation, and no right to invade a member of the UN.

Our actions in Syria are a disgrace to the very tenets of this our values. The mental gymnastics and Orwellian double-talk to explain the actions of the U.S. are hurting our standing in the world more than anything else.

Like sending a dead fish wrapped in a newspaper in the old days by the Mafia, I guess. A small warning not to do anything stupid

Stupid? As in kill ISIS?

IMO US troops are in Syria illegally; if they are injured, or killed then they are doing so while in Syria illegally.

If I trespass in my brother's property & I get killed, is that my brother's responsibility since I was never invited to my brother's property?

Just another case of the US wanting their cake & eating it too

Fuhrer Trump will fix all the problems; MAGA ............... maybe he can send in another $100 million worth of cruise missiles ........

Get over it RV. If our guys can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. And if they can't use a land line I guess they need more training.

Sounds more like your another one of those who blame America for everything. Russia ran the risk of creating an international incident between us, by no giving us propper notice that they were planning on conducting a military exercise in our proximity.

US troops are in Syria uninvited; that is due to faulty US policy, not the fault of Russian forces, nor government .........

No; that is not "everything" but it is what it is

Sorry, but who invited US troops to Syria?

He doesn't care. Russia can be in Ukraine killing Ukrainians but how dare the US be in Syria killing ISIS.

Perhaps we should start hammering Assad's Air Force into dust then. If Russians are killed then, oh well, guess they should have gotten out of the kitchen.

The question is were the us troops where russia and america agreed upon? Keep in mind the us is not officially invited into the country, infact russia and syria could view it as a hostile invasion and declare war if they wished. Russia and syria both however tend to ignore americas existence there so long as it is working against isis, which is a major enemy of assad as well as much of the world including russia.

Now russia and assad do not intentionally target target the sdf, however when fighting against rebels and isis, both will strike close to them, and in a recent even hit them, if they are close enough to their target. Basically to put it right now russia and syria side with the kurds because they are taking isis, but to them when they are near their target, they are collateral damage, which is obvious especially seeing the russians poor roe.

If you read the article you'll see that the U.S. military troops are masquerading as "advisors" and that they're not fighting ISIS. They're focused almost entirely on propping up radical Islamic Terrorists moderate rebels. That's pretty remarkable that you're gulping down the swill coming from terrorists propoganda. Even the U.S. government has given up the pretense that we're trying to help common Syrians.

Why are we even there? I dont understand what kind of endgame we want in Syria.

Why are we even there?

Probably because ISIS is there.

I dont understand what kind of endgame we want in Syria.

Trump said he could defeat ISIS in 30 days. That obviously didn't happen.

I think Trumps endgame is having ISIS severely degraded, Assad back in power, with Putin pulling the strings.

Why don't you blame the fella that was in the office when it all began for us, instead of your usual noncontributory childish sniping about Trump?.

Rogue Valley:

Didn't the Russians shutdown the deconfliction channel, dispense with the deconfliction lines and threaten to target all Coalition aircraft and drones operating west of the Euphrates after the US shot down a Syrian SU-27 in Syrian air-space on June 18th, 2017? Did the Russians reconsider this action since then and re-established the lines and the channel recently? I'm not aware of any changes in Russian policy but I haven't been paying close attention, so I may have missed it if it happened.

Cheers.

Bashar al Assad came to power in 2000 but I don't think it's fair to blame George Bush Jr. for this mess.;)

Muscovy is a field state

"...when it comes to overall quality of life, Russia ranks lower than all of the big emerging markets. Even Mexico with its corruption and drug lords does better.

According to the big data cost of living number crunchers at Numbeo, Russia's biggest problems are weather; Moscow traffic that makes the 405 in Los Angeles and the Marginal in Sao Paulo seem tame; outrageous real estate prices in city centers, and pollution" https://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrap...fe-indicators-worse-than-chinas/#10c49036571e

When did we go into Syria? That is what I am referring to.

RetiredUSN:

Yes, I understand. That was me being impish. I thought the "wink" smiley would make my frivolity clear. I was wrong and I apologise for wasting your time.

Cheers.
