The Emmys are becoming a tougher sell for viewers. For another year, initial ratings for the TV awards are down — this time slipping to an all-time low.

Adjustments could put the total audience ahead of the previous year's low, but the 8.2 overnight rating among metered market households is down another 2 percent from the previous year. That means that the final tally for the 2017 Emmys, hosted by Stephen Colbert on CBS, is on track to slip below the 11.3 million viewers (and a mere 2.8 rating among adults 18-49) that tuned in during 2016.

Hollywood showing once again that 1. they have NO class. 2. that people really don't care what their political views are...

All they are doing is ensuring that their own credibility is shot.

The Emmys are boring. I wanted to watch for Stephen Colbert but he's lost his step.

Do you really think that if they cut out their political views people would be rushing to watch the Emmy's? There's so many options on TV

Yeah I think if they concentrated on their "art" and performances instead of acting like petulant children they might get better ratings. I used to just check in at least to see how petulant they were, don't even bother to do that anymore it's all the same unfunny attempts to sound important.

ahem....please read the article....Or even my OP of the two paragraphs....viewership for that self congratulatory, sickening political rally are down again....

I have to agree with this. who wants to watch that **** even if they didn't get all stupid with the politics/

I thought I was addressing your post. You seem to be saying that the drop is people not wanting to watch TV stars talk about their politics or views. Do you really think that's the reason that the ratings are dropping?

Oh hell yeah....I used to watch these types of shows to see who won, now it's just a pure bludgeoning by leftest who think their opinion should matter, more than yours or mine....Who want's to hear that?

You explained exactly why his TV shows ratings are through the roof

He certainly can be although he has toned it down a LOT since the campaign. One reason why I didn't listen to many of his speeches when he was running.

You do know that his step was an act right and that he has been rabidly anti-trump for the past year?

I don't care about their politics. I'm just happy to see Alec and Kate won for their acting abilities! IDK if Elizabeth Moss is really acting since she is a Scientologist after all.

Cable Cord cutting.

All of the traditional TV providers customers numbers are down, so in turn rating are down. As of last count 10's of millions of cord cutters.

I've never watch the Emmys. But why do you care so much?

Yeah, but viewership for award shows in general are down. The Country Music Awards doesn't get anywhere near as political as the Emmys and the most recent CMAs had the lowest ratings in their history.

The injected politics may speed up the decline a bit, but award shows will continue to decline even without the politics. Award shows suck. Whether they are bad mouthing the President or merely thanking everyone who ever helped them along the way, it is still boring.

And any interesting bits from them you might miss you can just catch on Youtube. :)

Barring some data which proves your suspicion, I would suggest that awards shows - particularly an award show which give out piles and piles of awards to TV shows that most people have never see or in many cases are not even aware exist are what keeps people from viewing.

When we had the three major networks, there was a good chance that a viewer might be interested in which was voted Best Comedy that year as they had seen ALL IN THE FAMILY and MARY TYLER MOORE and BOB NEWHART and THE JEFFERSONS. That is no longer the case. I probably watch more TV than most folks and I was totally unfamiliar with about half the nominees.

Exactly, talking about politics has very little to do with it because the fact is they always have my whole life and its entertainers. Claiming its mainly and solely about politics in a is stupid into days option filled world.

When he was on the Colbert Report he was funny. You can rip into Republicans and be funny. You do know that's the job of a comedian right? To make people laugh and generally entertain them?

Colbert is generally funnier than Fallon and gets better ratings. He has good bits especially when he reads tweets in Trump voice. I think colbert did a good job last night and even you would have enjoyed Melissa McCarthy's face when Sean Spicer appeared.
