TV Ratings: Emmy Telecast on Track for Another Low

Barring some data which proves your suspicion, I would suggest that awards shows - particularly an award show which give out piles and piles of awards to TV shows that most people have never see or in many cases are not even aware exist are what keeps people from viewing.

When we had the three major networks, there was a good chance that a viewer might be interested in which was voted Best Comedy that year as they had seen ALL IN THE FAMILY and MARY TYLER MOORE and BOB NEWHART and THE JEFFERSONS. That is no longer the case. I probably watch more TV than most folks and I was totally unfamiliar with about half the nominees.

There were over 450 TV shows this year, so it's not surprising. No one can keep up with that not even those of us who love TV.

ahem....please read the article....Or even my OP of the two paragraphs....viewership for that self congratulatory, sickening political rally are down again....
Partisan bull crap. Yes viewership IS down, but not for the reasons you say. People are simply not interested. Those who watch TV like what they like and do not need someone to tell them whether it is the best or not. The political jokes were actually good, yes I watched while reading because my wife wanted to see who was wearing what. On the other hand Spicer said it was the most watched ever so are you calling him a liar?

Hollywood showing once again that 1. they have NO class. 2. that people really don't care what their political views are...

All they are doing is ensuring that their own credibility is shot.

That's what happens when it devolves into a circle jerk for a bunch of Leftist elitists.

Oh hell yeah....I used to watch these types of shows to see who won, now it's just a pure bludgeoning by leftest who think their opinion should matter, more than yours or mine....Who want's to hear that?

And the sad part is that these morons don't realize it's hurting them at the box office too.

But then that's what happens when they have their heads so damn far up their asses.

Personally, I haven't watched anything but brief moments of the various awards shows in years.

Mainly when something is touted as controversial by the media and everyone starts babbling about it.

On a positive note, it's football season. I honestly never heard of the shows that received awards, but then I've never heard of the ones that didn't, either. I've never heard of the actors or actresses in any case. From my perspective, they have to give themselves awards because nobody else will. This perspective is also the reason I call myself a carpenter...

I've always been baffled by celebrity worship. Some say it is the American substitute for royalty but I find it hard to understand why anyone cares about royalty either. These people are actors. They have a skill that earns them a living. That is true of a lot of occupations. We can respect that and enjoy their work. But these award shows exist only because the actors are famous, not because they are skilled. Without the fame, the celebrity worshipers wouldn't watch them.

If the awards were made based on objective criteria they would have some merit in my view. Then the show wouldn't be necessary. The awarders could simply publish a list with the results. But it appears the awards are decided subjectively.

Take my comments with a grain of salt. I've never watched an Emmy award show and it has been at least 1/2 a century since I watched an Oscar award show.

Exactly, talking about politics has very little to do with it because the fact is they always have my whole life and its entertainers. Claiming its mainly and solely about politics in a is stupid into days option filled world.

Denying it ia so is pure folly

Denying it ia so is pure folly

yet the FACT remains they have always talked about politics. ;) So again claiming its mainly and solely about politics (which the OP does and cant back up) is retarded and illogical into days option filled world.

the awards shows have been turned into a political platform for the left in Hollywood.
