A North Korean state agency threatened on Thursday to use nuclear weapons to "sink" Japan and reduce the United States to "ashes and darkness" for supporting a U.N. Security Council resolution and sanctions over its latest nuclear test.Pyongyang's Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, which handles the North's external ties and propaganda, also called for the breakup of the Security Council, which it called "a tool of evil" made up of "money-bribed" countries that move at the order of the United States."The four islands of the archipelago should be sunken into the sea by the nuclear bomb of Juche. Japan is no longer needed to exist near us," the committee said in a statement carried by the North's official KCNA news agency.Juche is the North's ruling ideology that mixes Marxism and an extreme form of go-it-alone nationalism preached by state founder Kim Il Sung, the grandfather of the current leader, Kim Jong Un.

Regional tension has risen markedly since the reclusive North conducted its sixth, and by far its most powerful, nuclear test on Sept. 3.The 15-member Security Council voted unanimously on a U.S.-drafted resolution and a new round of sanctions on Monday in response, banning North Korea's textile exports that are the second largest only to coal and mineral, and capping fuel supplies. The North reacted to the latest action by the Security Council, which had the backing of veto-holding China and Russia, by reiterating threats to destroy the United States, Japan and South Korea."Let's reduce the U.S. mainland into ashes and darkness. Let's vent our spite with mobilization of all retaliation means which have been prepared till now," the statement said

Really? They really like to make a big show and risk a lot when they have to know how bad they can be destroyed. I CERTAINLY dont want that type of blood shed but maybe they seem like they do . . doubtful but maybe.

Much like the drunk dude, that feels ten foot tall and bullet proof talking smack in a bar, saying that he will kick your ass - it can be handled in two ways: A) simply ignore him as no real threat or B) show him the error in his ways by kicking his ass. So far, Trump has taken path A but is also asking the bartender to cut him off. ;)

There's always the third option: Buy him drinks until he passes out.

I would say we possess the capability to reduce North Korea to darkness, but Kim's family has beat us to it.

Gotta hand it to them, though, they certainly masters of epic rhetoric. If they were in here spouting off like that, I'd give 'em a like before they got banned...lol...

They know how expensive and risky it would be for the US to do anything other than a massive surprise attack of all out destruction and without invasion possibly using tactical nukes to prevent the North shelling the cities to the South. Invasiin would be dangerous, because our Chinese or Russian friends could act out a rational of saving face.

Kim knows this and is relying on the US shying away from defending red lines.

China needs to silence that petulant little twat.

Sooner rather than later would be preferred.

Actually, that's a leftover of the Korean War. We ran out of targets to bomb after a while; the communist regime has yet to rebuild anything but the capital.

Either way, still on their heads, but more in terms of negligence and apathy than anything else.

I'd add them to my friends list. I think I was up to 13 banned friends, last I checked.

er uh, where's the tough talking tweets from the Potus? Hopefully ISIS doesn't notice he's gone soft.

Hmm... it seems that you favor the idea of the US treating NK more like Pakistan. ;)

I favor using the same tactic that we used against the USSR - get them to spend themselves to death. We should keep pushing them to spend as much money as possible to counter our actions. There's no way that NK will ever put their nukes to use, since there is no scenario where doing so leaves them anywhere but dead. We should be essentially taunting them into pouring money into their military until they can no longer sustain the expenditures. I say that we start publishing images of NK from our satellites that expose certain weaknesses in their military so that they end up putting more money into closing those gaps (not showing them everything we know, just the stuff that is expensive to fix, but fairly minor). Basically, we start getting that cat to chase our laser pointer and wear itself out accomplishing nothing.

From what I have read, NK is there already - they already let many starve to fund a military and support a lavish (by their standards) life for the political (party?) elite. The thing is, when you are already a tiny third world nation there is little room to sink further. NK sees having nukes as the fastest and easiest path to being important. The fact that little Kim is a legend only among his local click does not matter - he still makes global news so it must be true that the world knows him well. ;)

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that China is using North Korea for this exact purpose against the USA

It certainly works for "terror" groups - for every $200 IED attack they finance we spend a million on our response.

Actually, Trump doesn't need to bust the bank to get rid of NK. If he wants to destroy them, he can do it very quickly. All he has to do is buy the country, then turn it into one of his casinos.
