North Korea Claims to Have Hydrogen Bomb for Long-Range Missile

Again, I've already mentioned the situation is very complicated but blame can certainly be attributed to previous administrations, Republican and Democrat alike, for their complacency in the issue. The future will tell just how positively or negatively Trump handles it personally.

Literally a pointless argument if you're just going to blame a "lack of understanding" for things I've already mentioned.

Your blame of past administrations, both R and D, is without merit and does ZERO to deal with the current situation. It's all about playing trump victim cards as a preemptive strike if things go poorly ...

It is not about mending the current situation. That's like saying if you get a bad sunburn there is no value in understanding that you could've done things to prevent the sunburn. Sure, talking about sunblock doesn't heal your sunburn, but you now understand taking preventive measures would've reduced your suffering significantly.

This situation in North Korea will almost certainly not be mended entirely without some form of bloodshed... not at this point. The reaction of the world community and governments will dictate what kind or amount of bloodshed need happen.

North Korea wants the protection that nuclear weapons afford governments; not the mess that comes from using them in war.

No they want them to continue their blackmail of the rest of the World knowing the stronger their nuclear arsenal gets the more belligerent and outrageous their demands will be.

Experts don't believe they're lying - the amount of fissile material that would have to be used to create an explosion that large would be prohibitive. It looks like they have thermonuclear weapons.
I'm an expert and I say they're lying. It looks like they have boosted A-bombs.

10 grams of tritium gas (mixed with a molar equivalent of deuterium gas) will boost a single critical mass of Pu-239 to 90kt.
Some further thoughts:
During the 1970s France used the MR-31 warhead on their land-based ballistic missiles and the MR-41 warhead on their sub-launched ballistic missiles. The MR-31 warhead used pure unboosted fission of plutonium and had a yield of 120kt. The MR-41 used tritium-boosted fission of uranium and had a yield of 500kt.

Also, it isn't so much the development of thermonuclear weapons that is so implausible, but the development of lightweight thermonuclear warheads that can fit on their missiles. Miniaturized thermonuclear warheads have a different sort of primary that requires a level of precision and finely detailed manufacturing ability that is difficult even by the standards of nuclear weapons. I don't see the North Koreans achieving that anytime soon.

ABM is a coin toss, thus an unrealistic security blanket. All it's truly capable of is making a state actor even more wary of a first strike.

It's a KEY piece of the security blanket the argument that if you can't stop them all then we attempt to stop none is folly.

Conversely, state actors may be pressed to expose the weakness of ABM.

And face the consequences?

Had Japan or the U.S. used their defense systems on any launch over Japan, they would have likely unnecessarily exposed themselves to a weaker stature. The U.S. in particular would have been weakened, as it has long depended on giving assurances to governments that they are protected.

They are collecting telemetry and data so we can better predict their capabilities and profiles. If they launch one that poses a threat or we believe carries a nuke, we'll try and I sure hope we are successful don't you?
