It wasn't a question, it was a mispunctuated statement. There's nothing in what I said that implied I wanted anything. What do you think of my observation, that Trump is going to be kept on such a short leash he's liable to turn the Presidency into a figurehead position?

Like all hierarchies, power comes from below. It's granted by those lower on the ladder. If it's agreed that Trump needs to be reined in and his subordinates start to drag their feet when he orders something, invoke bureaucratic necessity, pass responsibilty around and maybe just ignore what he says, how do you think he'll handle it? Would he, for example, keep replacing the Joint Chiefs until he's got awestruck captains and lieutenant commanders in place?

For anybody who doubts that Mattis has adopted a script that is independent of the President, this very public press briefing may find that belief to be questioned. Asked by a reporter, "The President this morning tweeted that talking isn't the answer. Are we out of diplomatic solutions for North Korea?" Mattis responded, "No." and "We're never out of diplomatic Solutions." No attempt to frame his answer in a way that still somehow aligns with Trump's position. Just...."no."

How could he handle it? Firing, court martial.

Generals who spent their entire adult lives aren't going to throw it all away at the end.

It's kind of a figurehead position anyway. If Hillary or even Bernie would have been elected, what were they going to accomplish with a Republican House and Senate?

They can't take constitutional power from the president. If The Constitution gives the president a power, neither Congress, nor The Supreme Court can take it away. It's a violation of the balance of power.

But, Congress can't legislatively change The Constitution and The Supreme Court has no power to change The Constitution.
