Tropical Storm Harvey is rapidly strengthening and is now forecast to become a "major hurricane" when it his the middle Texas coast, the National Hurricane Center said late Thursday morning. "Major hurricane" means Category 3 (winds of at least 111 mph or higher), according to the center. Previously, the storm was projected to reach Category 1 status.

To everybody who lives in Corpus Christie and vicinity - Prep now. Here in Houston, my prepping is complete, and I am ready, but for the Houston area, this will just mean flooding similar to what happened with Alison, but not quite as bad. What I am afraid of is that people are going to die in Corpus. Too many times, people have failed to prepare for disaster, and too many times, people have attempted to drive in conditions like these. It always results in a number of deaths. So, to anyone living on the Texas coast, don't be foolish. Do your prepping today, while you still have time, and then wherever you end up, whether at home or at an evacuation center, STAY PUT!! Do that, and you will be fine. Finally, if you see water on the road, turn around, don't drown.

I'm in Brookshire, trying to get a load out of here. It won't be much longer before I say **** it and deadhead out.

Storms are powerful, get out of their way and they will pass.

I still do not understand why anyone would want to live anywhere often prone to hurricanes.

yea people get really stupid during a storm.
people asked if i was leaving for matthew and i didn't.
it was just not safe, and i had work to do in order to help other people
get ready for the storm.

I don't understand why anyone would want to live in an area where any natural event can occur.
whether it be hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, blizzards, etc ...

ol yea because it is weather and you really don't have much of a choice about it.

i grew up in the central part of the east coast. during the winter time we would get snow dumped on us
and ice. if a bad hurricane hi SC it would come in land and hit us as well.

Hugo was bad probably the worst one.

you can't escape weather.

Are you seeing any preparations being done at all?

Stay safe, everyone affected.

A blizzard is not going to flood or demolish your house.

I've been pointing this out down in the Weather forum, very exciting stuff.

Are you seeing any preparations being done at all?

Some are some aren't. I did my prepping yesterday, before we knew that this would become a major storm. :)

I was in Sams club last night watching people buy lots of water bottles, I do not really get that,
as I just fill up some containers before a storm.

I don't either and I live in NJ. I would go to my parents house if I run out of supplies, but thanks to Amazon, I'm pretty well stocked on essentials.

To all our members potentially affected by this, stay safe!

I have to have extra, because the kids will come my way, if they run out of stuff:mrgreen:
At this stage I will just fill up the cars, and check the generator.

Greetings, danarhea. :2wave:

I have family in the Houston area, so I'm following this very closely, needless to say!

Ironically, I just posted a few days ago to Jack Hays about my 1989 vacation trip to the Outer Banks of NC when hurricane Hugo hit, since he is currently on vacation with his family on an island off the NC coast! We immediately left and headed back home to Ohio as soon as we heard Hugo was headed for the Outer Banks, but it was such a large and destructive hurricane that it was a truly scary experience driving home since we felt like we were being followed and chased by heavy rain and strong winds all the way back to NE Ohio!

i beg to differ. i know people that have had their roof collapse due to snow.
ask the people in WV that a flood won't demolish your home. many of the people
there would gladly disagree with you.

Don't fool yourself. I've seen snow accumulation take out many a roof.

That is a small issue compared to hurricanes which regularly flood and destroy entire homes. A blizzard has never wiped out entire communities and left them destitute for years afterward.
