McConnell, in Private, Doubts if Trump Can Save Presidency

I think my personal history speaks to what I think of our country. Now as for political candidates which has nothing to do with liking or disliking one's country. I thought both major party candidates were the pitts last year, that neither belonged within a million miles of the Oval office. I voted accordingly out of love for this nation.

Would you then be kind enough to list a few more accomplishments of this president and his administration. What is your opinion of Judge Gorsuch? Would you rather have a heavily liberal Supreme Court.

Why are you bringing up your delusions of saboteurs in a thread about the relationship between the leader of the Republican Senate, Mitch McConnel and the Republican President? The left? It's the left's fault? That's what you're goin with?

Because it is hearsay and nothing more, must a rumor being promoted by the left. Same Old left bull****

A bit of election reform would be nice...not necessarily my first choice but I had hopes the next runner up among the also ran's would have made the 5% threshold to be treated as a viable party and partake in the debates next go round.

Gorsuch is fine with me. It isn't so much Trump's policies that are getting him in trouble, it is Trump himself. His persona, his character. His constant need to throw temper tantrums visa twitter like a five old who hasn't been taught any manners over every little bad thing that might be said about Trump. In fact 65% of all those who dislike Trump cite his character.

We basically have a name calling 4th grade schoolyard bully as president. Trump is trying to bully his way through congress and America and most Americans don't like that. They expect a president to at least act a bit presidential.

You come off as a rightwingnut...are you among the 32% who don't believe Trump Jr. met with the Russians?

Trump has problems across the board and as it gets more absurd you will be subjected to bits of reality wherever you get your version of the facts.

While I disagree that Gorsuch is fine, I agree with your post in general.

It's not so much that Trump is a climate change denying, Islamaphobe who wants to wall off America from the rest of the world. It's that he made up a lie about Barack Obama wiretapping him and tripled down on it, when everyone said, "Come on man, just admit you got caught with your pants down. It happens. Be an adult and admit you made a mistake and everyone can move on."

That communicates an unfathomable amount of insecurity to the American electorate. We need someone secure in his station, rather than lashing out at Meryl Streep, Nordstrom, The Mayor of London, etc.

So, you are name calling when you call him a "4th grade schoolyard bully." Is that the way the "Reform Party" behaves? I guess you have decided not to list any further accomplishments of our president and his administration.

The 5% threshold gets you some of the presidential matching funds. It took 15% in the polls last year to supposedly get a third party candidate into the debate. Now the debates are run by the bipartisan debate commission who sets the rules and standards. The presidential debates used to be sponsored and run by the League of Woman's Voters. But the League had the audacity to allow Ross Perot in the debates back in 1992. So the two major parties yanked the debates away from the League.

So don't hold your breath waiting for any third party or independent candidate to be included into the debates. If one manages to gather the 15%, the bipartisan debate commission will just change it to 20% or find a reason not to include the candidate.

If I were to make any changes it would be that any candidate that get on enough state ballots to achieve 270 electoral votes automatically qualify for the fist debate. Both Johnson and Stein did that. The second debate I would raise it to 400 electoral votes, Johnson qualified once more, Stein not. In fact Johnson was on all 50 state ballots and that would be my threshold for the last debate.

Given Mitch's last whiff in the Senate, he might not outlast Trump.

Trump actually is ALL OF THOSE THINGS & more .........

Trump will NEVER be 'secure' in any aspect of his being & placing someone with such a character flaw in the office of POTUS is a very dangerous thing, not only for the US but also for the whole planet

Trump becoming POTUS is about the worst case I have ever seen of "screwing the pooch" ......................... we are so very ****ed ..............

Trump isn't going to change. Perhaps, among many other things is that Trump doesn't understand how the American political system works. As a CEO and reality TV host, he can be as obnoxious as he wants, he can bully and dictate and have everyone say, Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full sir. People or most anyway, expect a certain decorum from their president. Trump grates on people, he rubs them the wrong way. When people decide they don't like him, it isn't going to matter what he does, accomplishes or anything else.

Trump will be that obnoxious twitter feeder which occupies the White House.

Hasn't that been Trump's behavior?

The way I look at it, he brought it on himself.

Greetings, Pero. :2wave:

Do you think he's just used to having the final say in whatever he's doing, or could he have just lost interest when he realized the job wasn't what he expected it to be, and that includes putting up with the constant never-ending criticism of whatever he does - good or bad? They even asked for proof that he did indeed donate his salary, if you recall! To be fair, I'd be insulted if that ever happened to me, but if it did, I guarantee that my answer would be along the lines of "whatever gave you the idea that it was any business of yours what I do with my money?"... only I probably wouldn't be that well mannered about it, truth be known! Women handle insults differently than men do, I guess! :lamo

From the OP link, 'ChemTrailKelli' video ad by McConnell's PAC trashing Kelli Ward after trump trashes Jeff Flake. Nice slice and dice there Mitch. :lamo

McConnell is just as toxic as trump in his own special way. McConnell in 2018 = Reid in 2014.

The GOP pleases me eating each other up in primary battles that don't usually heat up until next year. Indiana is another nasty GOP senate primary already plus the Alabama special runoff 9/26 to face Doug Jones in the special general 12/12 late this year ...

I quite frankly don't give a ****, why do you? Trump's results are all that matters but you continue to buy rhetoric and ignore those results like you did for the past 8 years. Most like Obama and ignored his results, far too many actually hate Trump ignoring his results. I will take Trump's results matter and beat the hell out of Obama's. it was Obama results gave us Trump regardless what the left says. Results matter and can be found at BLS.gov and Treasury, record employment, record labor market and the debt is down.

Thanks for the clarification...personally, what I would like to see is anybody who reaches half the state ballots automatically gets on all 50 and into the debates and whatever else the others get as far as funding.

I enjoyed Ross Perot in the debates and having more players at the table is played much differently than a heads up battle...our system should not be based on who is the least worst.

Whoever said “Democrats fall in love, while Republicans fall in line” wasn't thinking of this bunch.
They really don't like intruders on their sacred turf.

OMG, what a mess the RADICAL left is trying to make, this is total and complete BS and one has to wonder why? What exactly has Trump done to create this kind of hatred on the part of the left?

This article/OP refers to the hatred of trump coming from the right, not the left, especially from DC GOPs on the right starting with McConnell along with quotes.

trump will be the kiss of death to Ted Cruz next year against Beto O'Rourke ...

Hasn't that been Trump's behavior?

So, if I ask you for accomplishments again, can I safely assume you will dodge me again? This will make the third request, but I guess you already know that.

Much of what is HEARSAY and speculation none of which truly matters, the problem in this country today is we need change, real change, not the same bull**** that created the problems we have, high debt, high dependent, no personal responsibility, low economic growth but that seems to be what you want. I don't, voted for change and am getting that change.

Yeah, just as I figured...you're hung up on Obama so since I don't like Trump I must be a blind Obama supporter...a leftist...a Damnocrap

Your hatred of Obama is a lame reason to blindly support someone such as Trump.

Appears that you've got your head so far in the clouds that you don't even stumble over the truth but feel free to post numbers, quotes,
etcetera and don't forget to provide the links.

I'm glad to hear raising the debt ceiling is no longer on the table with the debt being on the decline and all.

Yeah, women do handle insults differently. I'm not sure when it comes to Trump. I am sure he wasn't used to being questioned or told to wait or told he can't do that. I never followed Trump until he announced and then I never took him seriously for around 6 months. What Trump needs in my opinion is an insider advisor, one who knows how Washington Works and knows the movers and shakers. But even that wouldn't do Trump any good if he doesn't listen to the advisor.

To get things done in Washington, Trump needs a unified GOP. A unified congressional party. Attacking McCain, Murkowski and now McConnell isn't gong to get him that unified party. What Trump is doing is peeving even more of those in congress off at him. He needs every vote he can get, creating more feuds isn't going to accomplish that.

Amen to that. Funding will always be a problem for any independent or third party candidate. Last year Clinton spent 1.4 billion, Trump 957.6 million and Johnson was in their place spending 3 million. When you get outspent nearly 2.4 billion to 3 million, you aren't going to get your message out or even be able to let folks know you're on the ballot.

With money being made free speech by the SCOTUS, even money isn't going to happen. The two major parties get tens of millions, even hundreds of millions of dollars from corporations, wall street firms, lobbyist, special interests and mega, huge money donors. They aren't about to begin donating to third parties.

Respectfully, your remark regarding "Attacking McCain......" is not accurate. Trump has a very effective and successful "Bully Pulpit." His base will give him the support he needs at the congressional level in upcoming elections. As I mentioned earlier, the GOP is fundraising at twice the rate of any of its nearest competitors. We will take seats in 2018. With seats, we will achieve our goals. We will then add another conservative member to the Supreme Court. Liberals, commies, socialists, fascists are on the wrong side of history. If you think the Justice Department under Jeff Sessions is goofing off, then you are not the savvy political mind that you think you are. Be patient, Trump is really your worst nightmare. He is going to save America.
