If Trump pardons this guy it will hurt his re-election chances.

I don't have a clue if the pardon comes. I am interested to see DJT speak on consecutive nights. Last night was scripted and there was none of the usual hyperbole and now the "hounds" will be released. A sympathetic audience and we'll see. Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde?

Oh, ja. History shows that after he's been forced to be a good little boy (although vapid and boring), his next event, esp. since this is supposed to be another 'campaign rally', should be back to his old, unhinged, angry old lunatic act.

Esp. with Bannon gone now.

Expect froth, rage, stupidity and tautological repetition of emotional bull**** and slogans.

Trump should not pardon Arpaio because that makes Arpaio presumed to have been guilty and thus in need of a pardon. The idea that a judge can block officers from stopping suspected "undocumented" persons while driving makes it very difficult to enforce a law requiring a license (a state issued document) to drive. Does this mean that so long as you obey traffic laws then you need no license to drive on public roadways?

Did I miss something? Wasn't the sheriff found "guilty?"

Yes, but the case is under appeal which is why Arpaio is not yet in jail/prison. I still think Arpaio has a decent case - it is illegal to drive "undocumented" in AZ whether one is, or is not, in the country legally.

Thanks, I didn't realize there was an appeal.

Not in Phoenix.

Just in time, several of the people he railroaded will be out also.

Kama it ain't just tasty served cold.

Bingo. The acceptance of a pardon is the acceptance of guilt.

Yes it is illegal to drive undocumented in AZ, it is not illegal to drive in AZ while also being Hispanic. That is what got him in trouble, racial profiling as the means to determine stops.

Its easy to read someone elses words from a teleprompter.

The percentage of people who win their case on appeal is smaller than Trumps margin of victory in Michigan. I wouldn't count on Arpaio winning his appeal.

A. No, the judge didn't do that.
B. No, it doesn't make enforcement difficult.

Some people like to chime in w/no idea what they're talking about.

I've never understood that.

Hard to prove - should stops be relative to some statistic other than rate of success? If an officer "randomly" stops more X than Y is that wrong if stops of X result in more citations per stop than stops of Y?

I am quite sure that Arpaio can handle a misdemeanor conviction delaying his retirement a bit and he still likely has the option of getting a pardon if he wants one.

Not hard to prove
You have an entire police departments records to review regarding stops, arrests and traffic violations

If a significant number of stops involved Hispanics who did not commit a traffic violation or have an underlying reason to be stopped (vehicle matching a suspects vehicle from a recent crime etc). While the number of stops not involving Hispanics under the same conditions were at a significantly lower rate it is easily proven to be racial profiling.

OK, does Arpaio's part of AZ have the same problem with undocumented non-Hispanic folks as it does with undocumented Hispanic folks?

Arpaio should be treated with the same courtesy and respect that he treated the citizens and residents of Maricopa County whose custody under the constitution and rule of law he was responsible for. Trump can pardon him after he wears a pink outfit, stays in a tent in 120 degree heat and eats rotten baloney sandwiches for a while. And of course, doesn't his name sound Italian? He should be ethnically profiled as an organized crime figure. Finally, he should pay Phoenix back some of the millions he has cost taxpayers in settlements. I am sure at least some of the citizens of Phoenix would agree.

Doesn't not matter

You can not stop someone just because of their ethnicity. I also expect that their is during the winter a significant number of Canadians working on their golf game in AZ

Different issue completely. You were touting that Arpaio has a good case for appeal. I was pointing out the reality that many people THINK that they have a great case on appeal but the reality is, you never want to fight your case from an appeal because the percentage of people who actually win their appeal is smaller than Trumps hands or his margin of victory in Michigan.

If Trump pardons Arpaio he should be impeached.
