Imran Awan, a former IT aide for Democratic Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, was indicted Thursday on four counts including bank fraud and making false statements.




The indictment also includes his wife Hina Alvi.
The grand jury decision in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia comes roughly a month after Awan was arrested at Dulles airport in Virginia trying to board a plane to Pakistan, where his family is from.

Wasserman Schultz went on to imply her top staffer may have been unfairly targeted for investigation because of his faith since he is Muslim.

"I had grave concerns about his due process rights being violated," Wasserman Schultz said. "When their investigation was reviewed with me, I was presented with no evidence of anything they were being investigated for. And so that, in me, gave me great concern that his due process rights were being violated. That there were racial and ethnic profiling concerns that I had."

Indictment only means that the government prosecutor was able to convince the grand jury that there appears to be evidence that a crime MAY have been committed.

sorry a grand jury doesn't indict someone for just being a Muslim.
you actually have to present evidence that they did something wrong.
