They were nationalists who were white. Many of them voted for Obama, until they figured out he sold them bushels full of rotten apples. "The audacity or hope"? "Change you can believe in"? 1) It will prove true the claims that the White Supremacist element is a strong and relevant portion of Trump's base. Republicans who aren't comfortable with that fact and who were happy to dismiss that possibility as hysterical and overblown will be forced to confront this reality.

3) White Supremacy will go mainstream and become a common backdrop in American politics. Republicans will sigh in resignation and accept this unholy alliance.
