Texas A&M cancels white supremacist rally set for Sept. 11

But these are nazis. You do understand what they want right?

I understand what a lot of people want. They still have the right to speak.

Them speaking is full of hate speech about eradicating whole groups of people. That is not someone's rights I want to defend. I'm not sure why you do

They may be nazis. I get that. I don't like the massage, neither do you. I get that. But I recognize that only by protecting their right to speak, I protect my right to speak. Do you understand that?

Conservative Republicans coming out of the woodwork to defend Right Wing fascists Nazis!! Well if there was any doubt the GOP was making a hard right turn in their ideology this past week has proved there no longer is any doubt.

I now know for a fact that many Republicans will do anything to keep and (R) in the White House.
Please point out everyone in this thread who is defending Nazis. I see people defending principles that this country stands for, like freedom of speech, but I don't see anyone defending Nazis.

They would not do the same for you if you were anybody but a white Christian male

I don't include myself as the we. But liberals have a weak argument if they have any argument at all, and they saw even that go up in smoke then their continuation candidate lost. So now it's apparently anything goes.

The appeal of "The Ends Justify the Means" is precisely that no winning argument needs to be found. We are in a new dark age, we do what we want to do finding in the "reason" after the fact, and "Might Makes Right" is back in Vogue to Get-R-Done.

I'm well aware that you can't fathom why someone would stand up for the rights of people they disagree with. You simply don't understand or cherish freedom.

It's akin to screaming 'fire' in a packed movie theatre, IMO. There are limits to the first amendment for all extremists, not to deflect from the nazis. I see the rest of the extremists, besides the nazis, on notice now, seeing the blowback from C-ville ...

See, this is the kind of ignorance you have to deal with when you defend freedom for its own sake, and why there are so many cowards who won't -- they don't want to be labeled, as SenorXM/Sirius ignorantly does, as the people they're defending. So they stay silent.

None because the anti gun control people let them rally unabated and didnt show up with the intention cause a violent conflict

So your assumption is it was the counter-protesters who came to (or went to) Charlottesville "with the intention cause a violent conflict".

Maybe the counter-protesters went to simply counter-protest, and they were met with violence.

Who's to know exactly who started the violence?

We do however know exactly who actually killed another person, and was lucky to have not killed quite a few more.

Remarkably, I don't recall seeing you so avidly defend "freedom" in BLM threads of the past.

You have no idea what I said in any of those threads, nor do you actually care to find out.

BLM has just as much right to speak as anyone else.

There never even was any such exception. It's the #1 thing people think they "know" about the law, but actually don't.

Well, there's this from the Supreme Court decision you quoted me in another thread...

3. That a State, in the exercise of its police power, may punish those who abuse this freedom by utterances inimical to the public welfare, tending to corrupt public morals, incite to crime or disturb the public peace, is not open to question. P. 268 U. S. 667.

Because the principle of free speech is far more important than the content of that speech.

Of course they do. I just don't recall seeing your condescending super-hero "defender of freedom" act in there like I do in here.

I could be wrong. But I doubt it.

He was referring to a specific, mythical "fire in a crowded theater" exception to free speech which never existed, but everyone thinks does.

And that case has been qualified numerous times since, ever-narrowing the exceptions to free speech.

What you "recall" and what you "doubt" is completely meaningless.

They have more meaning than your selective "freedom" rant here.

That's on them, not me. BLM wouldn't either.

I am white male, though not Christian. I doubt that they would approve my message either.

I don't believe so. The difference is I welcome free speech, but not what these idiots are saying. That's not such a horrible line in the sand to draw.

Irrelevant. Free speech applies to everyone or it applies to no one.

hate speech is not free speech. It is perfectly alright to hate nazis. That does not make you the same as nazis.

Anytime threats or fear of violence cancels discourse we all lose.

Terrorism should not be allowed to win that easily.
Yeah. One day the terrorist thugs who pressure to cancel a rally may pressure to cancel your rally. Either you think EXACTLY as the terrorist thugs think or you will be censored. Can you say fascism? I can.

Yup not one of these people have said, I don't agree with the nazis. They shouldn't be speaking like this. They are wholly defending nazi hate speech because people dared criticize them and god forbid they punched them in the face.
