Another white nationalist rally planned, this time in Texas with Richard Spencer

The city of Charlottesville had tried to revoke the protest permit of one of the rally organizers, Jason Kessler. But the ACLU, among others, came to his legal defense, arguing in court that the move was trying to unlawfully restrict his free speech.

US District Court Judge Glen Conrad agreed, ruling on Friday “that Kessler has shown that he will likely prove that the decision to revoke his permit was based on the content of his speech.”

I find quite the opposite.

I think Virginia showed why it's beneficial to ignore them.

Nearly no one, other than a few on this forum that likely follow that line of thinking, on this forum or around this country would've even known a rally was happening if not for the violence that erupted. Their message would've reached almost no one except for people in the immediate location and those who already are deeply involved in the movement. If they were ignored, there would not be a woman dead, caught up in the violence that erupted. If they were ignored, numerous assaults and various physical altercations that occurred wouldn't have occurred. If they had been ignored, then they would not have been given the propaganda tools to claim that people were trying to "silence" them, or that it was another example of them trying to be "replaced", or giving them fodder to point at violence they would claim was perpetrated against them, and on and on.

Confronting them in the fashion that was seen in Virginia doesn't hurt their cause; it aids it.

See, this...this is dumb. This is another instance of taking a good idea and then going stupidly antagonistic with it for no good reason, and in a fashion that's going to make it easy for the violent entities within both groups to have their way.

You want to counter protest? Cool, more power to you and it's your right, go for it. Want to send a message you're turning your back on hate? Awesome! Neat message and theme, do it. Go set up your counter protest next to theirs and have everyone turned away, with the focal point being such that everyones back to their rally.

But don't freaking "close in" the other protest in a circle, giving an impression/feeling of them being "boxed in" and thus assuring that anyone attempting to get in or out of the protest is going to have to move through your ranks, opening up a simple and easy circumstance where those within the groups eager for violence can easily find a quick and ready made excuse to get into it.

Maybe we can build a 30 ft safety wall around the white supremisists for protection and get ANTIFA to pay for it.

Joking aside there isn't enough discussion about how the police and civil planners failed in Charlottesville.

However fault does lie with the nationalists for conducting an illegal gathering. At some point the police can't be accountable for the safety of people who are not complying with permits and other legalities.

The article I linked mentions the maroon wall created to thwart Westboro Baptist. It doesn't note that there is a Presidential Library in very close proximity and that the "men in black" will be there too.

I think we have to tolerate them. We don't have to accept them or their ideals, but we cannot do anything about it from a legal/government standpoint. Everyone gets to run their mouths, even idiots.

Then don't give them recruiting material. If you fight, they win. They fizzled for decades when they were being ignored and scoffed at at best.
