Japan ready to protect Guam, defense minister says | Fox News

In the event of a North Korean nuclear attack on Guam, Japan’s new defense minister said Thursday that his country’s military could shoot down the missiles before they reach the U.S. territory.

In such a scenario, Japan has the right to activate its Aegis destroyer missile defense system, Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said during a session of the National Diet, Japan’s parliament.

Any attack against Guam would be considered an existential threat to Japan, the defense minister said, also citing a mutual defense agreement with the United States.
Good on Japan for stepping up.

Need a few more on board and maybe NK thinks a little harder. Russia and China would be nice. I don't trust that Kim hasn't considered "going out in a blaze."

Not certain I understand your post. Kim doesn't demonstrate that the NK people matter to him.

You're right, but I can't see the guy wanting to go out in a blaze of glory.

Kim simply wants what NK has wanted since the 1950's - the whole of the Korean Peninsula. We stand in his way. It's good to know we are not alone in that. Kim doesn't want a war. He knows he'll lose. He wants a US withdrawal from Korea, and he believes the threat of a nuclear exchange will achieve it.

The article fails to mention that missiles launched against Guam from NK would have to pass directly over much of Japan, affording the opportunity for the Japanese to intercept them.

If China stepped up, it would be "Game Over."

People keep forgetting we are still at war with North Korea.

The Korean War didn't end with the armistice, it only entered into peace talks. At any time either side can say the talks have failed and begin the conflict again.

While I was stationed in South Korea with the 2nd Inf. Div. we went on alert several times due to attacks on South Korean sites by NK infiltrators.

As far as Kim Jong-Un is concerned, when he is ready to start the hot war up again he will. The only things effectively stopping him are Chinese pressure and the fact NK had no nukes to counter the American "big stick" threat.

One of those roadblocks, our unilateral ability to strike back with nukes has been overcome.

Time will tell what China will do.

He'll only go out in a blaze if he thinks his regime is in immediate danger of falling. That is why Trump's rhetoric is bad.

I sincerely hope that we don't dragged into war by that psychotic egomaniacal tyrant......

Or by that nut in North Korea either.

Good luck with Trump in the WH.

It's implied.

That's quite enough of that, go somewhere else.

The ultimate suicide bomber has occurred to me also.

I think that when push comes to shove there will be more on board than we thought. If Kimmie has the guts to take on the US, no country is safe.

Some of the articles I've seen do mention that.

Makes you wish the last three presidents would have taken care of the problem, don't it?

Is North Korea actually irrational though?

For some reason I think Kim jung in and North Korean leadership may not actually be bat**** insane.

You are probably correct, Kimmie If so, we do have a major problem.

I'm not sure there is any other Korean leadership other than Kim.

It's implied.

Obviously it's implied. It's a central fact and would be made explicit in a competent news story. The missile's path takes it across the entire width of lower Japan.
