McCain, two other GOP senators join Democrats to reject last-ditch effort to repeal O

Re: McCain, two other GOP senators join Democrats to reject last-ditch effort to repe

I see, so all of that resist, resist, resist nonsense was just a false front? ;)

... what was that about The Number One Goal for Republicans?

How'd that work out 4-yea

Re: McCain, two other GOP senators join Democrats to reject last-ditch effort to repe

You'll get no argument from me that Republican's in this have failed to deliver their promise to us. However, McCain, I don't think did what he did for any honorable reasons, what he did in sinking this bill, I believe was doing what he did not only because he is an avid anti Trumper, but also to stick it to McConnell who put the knife in McCain-Fiengold....

LOL, it's hilarious you have to invent BS CTs (Schumer took advantage of his mental incapacity!!) and personal motives to explain a NO vote on a piece of legislation that those voting YES insisted must not become law as is.

And even your basic point is pretty funny. Yes, it matters that the POTUS gleefully insulted McCain, and that McConnel is a grade A jerk. Who knew personal relationships matter in business, politics and life in general?

Far from it. There will be no collapse of Obamacare, but there are some problems.

1) First of all, some insurance companies are pulling out because Trump has threatened them with taking away their subsidies. That is also known as sabotaging the system in order to attempt to get it to collapse. However, the areas affected will be mainly rural areas that voted for Trump. This is going to hurt Trump a lot more than it's going to hurt the market. But we all know that Trump is famous for shooting himself in the foot, which is why he has been polled as the worst president in at least 70 years, and perhaps the worst ever.

2) Other problems stem from some governors refusing Medicaid expansion in their states. A notable exception is Kentucky, where the state government gave McConnell the middle finger and opted into Medicaid expansion. And, the healthcare system in Kentucky is not only doing well, but has become a model for other states that want to give Medicaid expansion a shot.

3) As for premiums skyrocketing, you can place that squarely on Republican sabotage of the system in an attempt to get it to fail. For instance Blue Cross/Blue Shield is requesting a 23 percent rate hike next year, but will only request an 8 percent increase if Republicans promise not to sabotage the system.

There are some other problems as well, but 90 percent of America is now insured, due to Obamacare, and it won't be going down the drain any time soon. But that still leaves 10 percent of the nation uninsured, which amounts to about 30 million people. Of that number many are not eligible, due to being in the country illegally. That still leaves a few million uninsured. This is something that Democrats and Republicans need to put their heads together and fix. The "My way or the highway" Republican approach isn't going to work, as was demonstrated in spades this week.

The exchanges are all collapsing. The entire system is right behind it

Just because it's what you wish for doesn't mean that it will happen.

Government spending was what fueled economic growth during world war 2.
CrusaderFrank used to make that claim and was always and easily refuted.

It's already happening. All the partisan denial in the world won't change that.

Whats your point? That more government isn't the solution to too much government? On that, I agree.

I am usually not for more government, but in some cases, Government is needed. You can't run interstate highways through all states, without some kind of federal funding. I believe in legislation like the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act. Prior to those, Corporations did whatever they wanted to do, with our water and air. I also think the USPS does a good job. Now to health care. I believe that the best, and most affordable and fair way to provide quality health care to Americans, is a Single-Payer system. The US already has something like this, with Medicare for the elderly, so it would be a relatively easy transition. However, the Insurance lobby needs to be stymied.

Why was there a recession in 1945?

So, communism is the answer?

Re: McCain, two other GOP senators join Democrats to reject last-ditch effort to repe

It should also be noted that Collins and Murkowski were early "no's" because the bills were bad for their constituents, whereas McCain jumped in at the end because he didn't like the process.

So is it a good thing that McCain's third vote helped kill the bill? Yes, obviously. But he used skewed priorities to arrive at a correct decision.

Not once in his entire speech to the Senate did he make a point about the harm repeal would do to the people of their states.

I'm grateful McCain isn't my Senator, because he's shown that he would vote for a harmful bill if he felt the process was right.

Actually his priorities were that congress should not write bills in closed door sessions and pass them without hearings. Not at all skewed if we want any sort of functional govt.

This may be McCains last term and this may of been a GOP loyalists move to give the rest of them the political cover for not getting something passed. He may be the scrafical lamb. Either case Im curious to see how Trump handles all of this because he does have some tools in his arsenal to fight back with. Its just a question of if he has the balls to use them.

Yes ttwtt....Demorats have ideas and are willing to work with Republicans...but they have to be invited to the table. Republicans control what can be brought to the floor. I'm surprised that you don't know that.
After the deplorable behavior of Dems I would not hold me breath waiting for that invitation.
