Bezos to Bezos Prime.

Bill Gates is more of a philanthropist now, I'm surprised he has held the top spot for so long.

He was passed by Carlos Slim and Amancio Ortega a couple of times over the last decade. Besos however is new to the top. It all depends on the share prices and tomorrow Amazons will fall and Bill will be back on top, unless Inditex comes out with another blockbuster result, that pushes Ortegas fortune up.

Yeah but Bezos fortune is growing minute by minute especially whenever he makes another acquisition. Gates is not coming up with anything new and he is just sitting on piles of money seeing it grow but eventually it will sputter out.

LOL Gates has been doing that for over a decade and still manages to be in the top 3 every year.

Bezos fortune is also a tad odd.. since his company did not make a profit for 20 years... odd how it managed not to go under.

Bezos gives me money so I wont complain.

Agreed but amazon seems to be taking over the world. Microsoft is still king of the PC. It's gonna be a good fight. And Zuckerberg is getting closer to number three spot too.

Not to divert from the topic here but isn't it amazing and GOOD too, that as these really rich men and women, would not have anything to do with the asshole pretender trump?

Companies without Gross Profit fail, companies without Net Profit can do just fine.

Then there is that fanboy dick magnet Musk who hasn't found a TED talk he'll say no to.

He was the first to overlook all of Trump's flaws and sign on with him. History will treat him like Henry Ford, praised for his business sense. Behind the times on the social sphere.

This was sent from Putin's computer using Donald's credentials.

This the guy who set up a company that does not make money, is not intended to make money, and which will be broken up by the government.

This is how badly our economy distributes wealth and capital now.

Our so-called capitalist system.

Amazon is about 43 % of online sales, which means it is a long way from being broken up. Amazon reinvests it's profits. That is what is known as smart business.

We can bust it up when ever we decide to bust it up, which should have been yesterday.

We do not "bust up" companies because you are butthurt about them. We do for monopoly, but Amazon is nowhere near close to being one.

And quit when he realized his advice wasn't going to do a damn thing to change Trump's mind.

Hmmm I don't know about 'nowhere near close'.

They routinely put smaller competition out of business by undercutting (if you ever see a small seller put a niche item on Amazon, look for Amazon to make their own version and undercut them in the coming months - it's happened to a friend of mine and I've warned another who recently started selling there). Not to mention they're making moves towards the infrastructure underlying their business too. Their physical presence with Whole Food stores will allow them to compete with Fed Ex and UPS soon in terms of delivery.

I don't think those at the very top consider who has the most a competition. Gates and Buffet have both given away much of their fortune. I don't know about the others.

But when you can spend a half billion a month and never run out I don't think it matters.

Carlos Slim was the worlds richest for a couple of years, and Ortega owns the biggest clothing company on the planet. Both have been in the top 10 and lately the top 5 for decades. Only reason you do not know about them is that one is Mexican and the other is Spanish.... For example, Oretega is worth 83.5 billion, not far off Bezos. All it takes is a change in the stock prices.

I do not know how he is as a parson and having said that, I can imagine that some smart people have signed on also in the hope that seeing the idiocy that Trump embodies, they hoped to shape and offer guidance in order to lessen the damage that will result from Trump's presidency. Clearly since then they have abandoned that notion.

Undercutting prices is not a monopoly.

No, it is a tool to build a monopoly, which I dont approve of because it is abuse of the other game players if those prices are unsustainably low to drive out the other players.

This is the reason I boycotted Walmart for a decade.

It is also a tool to be competitive. In itself it does not indicate monopoly. Market share is a primary indicator of monopoly, and Amazon is well below that level of market share. For comparison, Microsoft was at a 90 % market share when they where designated a monopoly.

Low prices and no profits driving everyone else out of the game adds up to "BUST EM UP NOW!" for me.
