Trump: 'US will not allow transgender individuals to serve in military' [W:144]

Re: Trump to reinstate US military ban on transgender people

'President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he plans to reinstate the ban transgender individuals from serving "in any capacity" in the US armed forces.'

Trump to reinstate US military ban on transgender people - CNNPolitics.com

Thoughts?

I got NO Problem with this. The amount of medical care required to transition, be it with my physiatrist, with an Endocrinologist, taking my daily HRT... I'm trying to imagine this being supported when I was deployed... don't see it happening, and that was on a mid-sized naval vessel, imagine that out in the field for weeks or months at a time?

No, President Trump is right on this one. The reality of War > the reality of Transitioning.

Besides being yucky people that most GI's would not want to serve with the proceedure is expensive and time consuming
They are no use to the military for about 2 years

It's always nice to see someone who's never spent a day of his life serving his country pretend to talk for nearly 2 million active and reserve members of the military.

I think most of us would take them over you any day of the week.

Re: Trump to reinstate US military ban on transgender people

And Trump takes another step to try and push America back to the 1950's.

The military isn't civilian world, and transitioning isn't some simple process. He's made a smart choice IMHO.

Sorry mods...did not see this was already started in another thread - please merge/erase.

Transgenders aren't "yucky" people.

That pretty much is the only conviction he has. Trump can't pass legislation or make any big policy changes, but he can do a few superficial things like this here and there to rile up his bigoted base.

Yeah, Trump touched a rainbow flag once so his more moderate voters thought he actually would stand up for equal rights. They're not a smart bunch.
No Trump is returning to the sensible policy that was in place prior to when Obama drop this on from slap in the last couple months of his presidency. The military didn't want this change, it's not practical to have this type of change, and furthermore there is no right to be in the military to begin with

Re: Trump to reinstate US military ban on transgender people

Jonathan Swan, a reporter for Axios, spoke to a Trump administration official about the this decision, who had this to say:

"This forces Democrats in Rust Belt states like Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin, to take complete ownership of this issue. How will the blue collar voters in these states respond when senators up for re-election in 2018 like Debbie Stabenow are forced to make their opposition to this a key plank of their campaign?"

If true (and I'm inclined to think it is), then Trump is lying about this having anything to do with "medical costs" and "disruption." He has, at the very least, made a liar out of his past self (per usual) when he tweeted this on June 14, 2006 in an attempt to drive a wedge between the LGBT community and Clinton:

"Thank you to the LGBT community! I will fight for you while Hillary brings in more people that will threaten your freedoms and beliefs."

I could see allowing them in, but limiting the roles they could be in. Non-combat logistical support should be a no-brainer. As far as the costs involved for the specialized medical care that's demanded - that should be covered by the individual, not the military.

Like someone raised earlier, what's going to happen to all of the transgender individuals currently serving in the military? Will they all end up being kicked out?

Yeah, I wonder what's going to happen to all them.

I have to wonder, how many is "all of them"? The population has to be rather low.

In the end, if someone wishes to serve and can pass all the standard requirements for doing so, I think they should be allowed to. Unless there's some overwhelming evidence/data that states that doing so has a significant impact on military efficiency.

@realDonaldTrump

Right.....

TG, as a transwoman, and a Navy Vet, I gotta say supporting a transitioning service member is just not a viable option. There's the needed psychologist, the endocrinologist, the hormones... that's a LOT to ask the military to support for what would be a minimal number of people. Also, how do you support a trans person whose deployed? In war zone?

No, this was a good move, and yes I get that there are people who want to transition and serve, but the needs of the military > the individual. What's important is not this, this doesn't support the mission, doesn't serve any purpose other than feel goodism.

Sorry.

Isn't medical coverage part of the compensation for service? Are you saying that some who would have this type of medical procedure do not serve?

I'm saying that the military already has, and always has had, people who sign up primarily for the medical coverage. Goldbricking is nothing new in the military and the transgender thing would merely open the door to more of it.

Yep. Their life circumstance isn't compatible with the military. Sorry.

Okay, but that's taking away a rotation slot from someone else. I don't like that at all.

Gotta a link?? My guess is that the WHOLE story was more like "In addition to the military demands and costs, there's also..." But then, that doesn't feed the hate, now does it....

An administration official already reported this is about driving a wedge between blue collar voters (bigots) and Democrats running in 2018. This has nothing to do with medical costs.

Are you saying that prisons have a better handle on this issue than the US Military? Because it sure looks like they do.

Lol. The most obvious example of an Uncle Tom we've seen in a while. Thanks for that. You managed to demean and denigrate your own kind as being completely incapable of service even years after their transition. Self-loathing much?

And I'm sure there are a lot of people who think blacks and gays being in the military is not practical, and after all, they don't have a "right" so **** 'em right?

I read somewhere that the amount currently serving is around 4,000.

Really.

Prisons are not the military. I can't believe you just made such an analogy.

It's not costs, it's the logistical support system required.

I assumed that liberals already know that I approve of the decision

And all I said was that liberals would not like it

Was I right?

Weren't you just saying in another thread about how diverse republicans are?

Republicans are too diverse to all agree with me

So why would you now what your reader to assume your positions?

Wow, can you be more insulting?
