At the end of a Senate subcommittee hearing on Tuesday morning, someone sitting near Chairman Susan Collins (R-Maine) didn’t switch off a microphone. Collins was recorded discussing the federal budget and President Trump’s lack of familiarity with the details of governing with a colleague — apparently Sen. Jack Reed (R.I.), the ranking Democrat on the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies subcommittee.

After Reed praises Collins’s leadership of the hearing, she laments the administration’s handling of spending.

“I swear, [the Office of Management and Budget] just went through and whenever there was ‘grant,’ they just X it out,” Collins says. “With no measurement, no thinking about it, no metrics, no nothing. It’s just incredibly irresponsible.”

“Yes,” Reed replies. “I think — I think he’s crazy,” apparently referring to the president. “I mean, I don’t say that lightly and as a kind of a goofy guy.”

“I’m worried,” Collins replies.

“Oof,” Reed continues. “You know, this thing — if we don’t get a budget deal, we’re going to be paralyzed.”

“I know,” Collins replies.

“[Department of Defense] is going to be paralyzed, everybody is going to be paralyzed,” Reed says.

“I don’t think he knows there is a [Budget Control Act] or anything,” Collins says, referring to a 2011 law that defines the budget process.

Sometimes it is interesting to hear what politicians talk about in private, because when hearing them speak honestly in private we can understand what really goes on in Washington.

Nikki Haley seems to be the only person in the Trump administration actually doing her job. Probably since Trump doesn't care about the UN she can do whatever she wants with little oversight.

One of the worst-kept secrets in Washington is that the Republican party would far rather have President Pence than President Trump. But their base is way too frenzied to let that happen any time soon.

It is nice to see that our political leaders can personally get along.

Something else for the Left to hyperventilate over.

Under the BCA, Trump has 300 days to negotiate a budget deal with Congress before the automatic accross the board cuts take place.

Susan Collins is just a two faced RINO who voted for the repeal of ObamaCare under the Obama administration but not when it mattered.

I would rather have President Pence. and yes, I'm aware Pence could get MANY bills I disagree with passed, but I would rather a president ACT presidential rather than a man-child throwing tantrums on twitter.

"RINO", every one drink!

How quaintly irrelevant to the matter at hand.

This is historic

Trump is the first president in history that was ever criticized by a senator

And of course no one ever had any criticism of a senator

They walk on water, right?

Kinda irrelevant to the substance of what was said, isn't it? When you cannot argue with facts, divert!

Not at all

Being criticized by snooty senators who pass healthcare laws that do not apply to them is par for the course in washington where everyone thinks they are smarter than everyone else iincluding the president

And of course no one ever had any criticism of a senator

Bill is an asshole.
Bill is a panzy.
Bill is scared of the NRA.
Bill is a commie with his desire to help the poor.
vs
Bill seems to be quite literally crazy...I'm worried.

I see those as quite different than the last one. Although I bet GWB got some flak on how stupid and involved he was too. And he was.
Call it like you see it.

Liberals are so predictable I expect them to rant and rave about trump 24/7

Your complaints have become meaningless

One of the worst-kept secrets in Washington is that the Republican party would far rather have President Pence than President Trump. But their base is way too frenzied to let that happen any time soon.

And Dems around the nation are torn on that. Many want to see Trump gone ASAP by any legit means necessary since he is viewed as a dangerous authoritarian who could well ruin this great nation with his irresponsibility and madness. But then they also realize that the impotence that afflicts so much of Congress today because of Trump would quickly be gone with the wind as the GOP goes bananas over the idea of Pence as president.

And the rest of us begin to mourn again.

Your complaints have become meaningless

So complaining about my argument, rather than debating it, you're being meaningful?
(Hint: no)

This is what I like about the WaPo, no bias whatsoever. They headline the part about Collins saying "Trump's crazy" but you have to read the rest of the article to see what else she said -

In a more salacious part of what was recorded, Collins then addressed a radio interview in which Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Tex.) suggested that if Collins were a man, he’d have challenged her to a duel for opposing the Senate Republicans’ Obamacare overhaul bill.

“Did you see the one who challenged me to a duel?” Collins asks.

“I know,” Reed replies. “Trust me. Do you know why he challenged you to a duel? ‘Cause you could beat the s— out of him.”

“Well, he’s huge,” Collins replies. “And he — I don’t mean to be unkind, but he’s so unattractive it’s unbelievable.”

“Did you see the picture of him in his pajamas next to this Playboy bunny?” she continues, referring to an infamous photo of Farenthold, below.

Now, hasn't Trump been criticized for the same kind of comments? Aren't those type of comments by Trump the reason people think he's "crazy"?

Yea, Sue Collins, suck it up sister because you're no better than Trump is. And WaPo, you guys suck just as much and for the same reason.

Lol ! Its absolutely relevent, the Budget Control Act was exactly what Collins was whining about

Trump has 300 days to work out a budget deal with Congress before the cuts that she was so upset about kick in.

It's a damn shame that that's the decision before us. But the petty squabbling within our base is a reason we're here now.

This isn't a Senator showing criticism. It's two Senators questioning a president's sanity.

No, sorry. The entire point is that Trump is mentally unstable and senators were caught admitted to that on a hot mic.

Sorry you're so confused by all this.

Your equivocation fallacy failed.

As we invade Syria, Iraq again, and Iran, Praxas will say to himself: "at least Pence acts presidential."

Sorry you're so confused by all this.

Well thats the point of every thread posted by dejected Hillary supporters these days, but if youv'e read one of those threads youve read them all.

It was boring 3 months ago, now its just pathetic.

Collins based her assertion of Trumps mental capacity on up and coming budget cuts that would be implented under the 2011 Budget Control Act.

Trump has 300 days to work with Congress on a budget before those cuts kick in so if anyone is " crazy " its Collins.

She claims Trump isnt aware the BCA exist. She thinks sequestration is about to kick in apparently....Lol
