KABUL — The general in charge of U.S. forces in Afghanistan appeared to confirm Monday that Russia is sending weapons to the Taliban, an intervention that will probably further complicate the 15-year-old war here and the Kremlin’s relations with the United States.

So yeah...Russia. Our newest friend?

And yes...Foxnews is reporting it too.

Russia has a destructive culture and Putin is its Dionysian leader.

Dragonfly:

Remember Operation Cyclone under the Carter and Reagan administrations? What goes around comes around in the wicked world of Afghan realpolitik. From the Russian perspective your are interfering in their near-abroad and they will do anything they must do to stop that encroachment. You have no more right or justification to be in Afghanistan for the last 16 years than the Soviet Union had to be there from 1979 - 1989. The problem is that you both believe you do have the right to be there. If you want better relations with Russia then you'll have to earn them by adjusting your behaviour. If you don't, and probably even if you do, Russia will remain somewhat antagonistic to the USA and its interests when Russian interests are under threat. Like the two Afghanistan occupations, Crimea and Okinawa are two sides of the same coin. What separates the USA and Russia is not their differences but their common belief that they can legitimately trample over the sovereignty of third-party nations. So enjoy the Manpads and RPG's being shot up your backsides as reciprocity for your own past and present policies. Pay-back is a b***h!

Cheers.

Not much we can say morally, remember "Charlie Wilson's War", author George Crile.

That depends. It was quite official that we were in a Cold War. That war was over and all was set for a prosperous future of communality. Then Putin had the Gerasimov Doctrine drawn up and leveled nonlinear war on us. This begann in the last days of Clinton's administration, its force taking the US by surprise in the Bush administration. Since then it should have been full confrontation from our side, but we fell down. And Trump's position seems unclear. It is really rather stupid of us.

No reason not to shake hands as long as you don't neglect the war he is waging. I am afraid that Trump hasn't the experience nor the formal training to grasp the consequences of acting the slick deal maker rather than the strategist.

Trump knows more about this then the generals. OR this is fake news... OR this is bad intel again.

Trump and his cult like followers will pick 1, or maybe all three excuses to defend Trump's buddy Vladimir Putin.

Ha ! They stold that idea from Reagan, Russian cheeky monkees..

Reagan armed the Mujhideen to force Russia into a war of attrition.

Russia wound up getting bogged down in a expensive war they couldnt afford while at home they struggled with crap economy and a loss of oil revenues.

This precipitated the collpase of the Soviet Union and the Liberation of East Germany

Russia arms winding up in the hands of our enemies is nothing new and its barely news worthy.

Whats shocking was the Obama administration shipping arms to radical Islmist groups in Lybia and Syria.

Shocking still was Obama's ME strategy to suppport Islamist rebels in their attempts to overthow secular regimes and install a new Islamic theocracy.

This was done under the pretense of spreading Democracy and fighting ISIS but Islamic theocracies arent typically Democratic

And we sell weapons to the Afghan and Iraqi govs., the Syrian rebels and the Kurds to name a few. What's new here?

What's new here is that Russia is DIRECTLY selling weapons to the Taliban which is a terrorist organization. but I guess since it's Trump's new best friend doing it, that makes ok to you.

What's pointless about the Trump & Putin alliance?

That's what they said about the pacts before the world wars. We got the answer, but some have forgotten.

Yep, wow, just wow. These weapons will be used to kill Americans. But still the Trumpsters defend Trump and his buddy Putin.

Again, WOW!

1) Obama is no longer POTUS
2) Obama isn't the topic of this thread
3) We're talking about right here, right now, in 2017
4) Russia supplying arms to directly to Taliban
5) Massive amounts of strange goings on between Trump, the Trump Administration, and Russia

Care to comment on Russia, Taliban, weapons, and Trump - or is deflecting where all your efforts are going to be spent?

What's pointless about the Trump & Putin alliance?

So now you have a point! While Putin has been a leader in Russia, it is easy to find a picture of Putin shaking hands with Bush and Obama.

Shaking hands with one of the worst Presidents we've had is no worse than shaking hands with the enemy? You might have a point. ;)

My point about the post being pointless stands. If you want to insert YOUR point into Dragonfly's picture, then his post would have had a point.

Other countries consider us to be selling directly to terrorist organizations. Such is the global arms market and the ideals of proxy warfare.

Your Russia rhetoric is getting nauseatingly repetitious. A new shtick is in order.

Are you not seeing ALL the press (I know - fake press) about Russia and Trump and meetings, secret meetings, Kushner now admitting he had meetings, and blah blah blah...

It's not just a POTUS shaking hands with Putin. It's possibly much more than that.

Oh pleaae, nice selective outrage you got there. Obama sent 400 million USD to Switzerland so it could be laundered, and then flown into Tehran.

Iran is the worlds leading State sponsor of terror and how many US troops woun up losing their lives and limbs from Iranian IED's in Iraq ?

Iran linked to deaths of 500 U.S. troops in Iraq, Afghanistan

Ah so it's not big deal to you that Trump's new best friend is selling arms to the terrorist organization that kills Americans. It's good you care so little about our military troops to keep your Trump loyalty.
