White House Signals Acceptance of Russia Sanctions Bill

Re: Congress to impose sanctions on Trump's Boss

The long running sanctions have not worked to change Russian behavior, sanctions often dont work, and there is a pretty good argument that sanctions have been helping Putin and helping to drive Russia further towards Team China but sure let's do more of them in the interest of doing something.

Wasn't the vote 98 to 2 in favor. This makes no sense at all. Driving Russia toward China.

Actually the real reason for the "acceptance" is that his veto won't fly. It will be overturned and he certainly doesn't want those optics.

Good point, but 'optics' won't matter with his base. He can shoot someone on 5th Av., etc... And quite honestly I don't think Trump cares about optics anymore, with anyone.

He probably wouldn't want to show us how big of a loser he is by vetoing a bill where the veto will be easily overturned.

He might think Putin will give him a pass since the bill can get rammed past him with or without his approval. He might also think that signing the bill will take pressure off of the Russia investigation.

However, i think Putin would prefer a puppet that fights back, or at least stalls the sanctions, and i doubt Mueller will be deterred by such a gesture in any meaningful way.

About 6 weeks ago there was a great piece somewhere about how we are driving Iran towards Team China as well...
Like we could not do a better job if we tried.

Forget where, I am on my phone now, maybe I will find it later.

Re: Congress to impose sanctions on Trump's Boss

Liberals would attack trump if he suspends the sanctions or if he goes along with them

The Senate passed the original version of the bill, 97 to 2

So it sounds like it's something Americans want rather than a conservative/liberal thing.

The Congress doesn't trust Trumpco.

The GOP may not be willing to put their mouth here, but this is where they're putting their money.

But, yes, there're some people who'll find Trumpco objectional w/o regard to the w/e future actions Trumpco take.

Democrats and Republicans working together to curtail Trump. I like the sound of that.

This tells you that no Senator and only the really idiotic Representatives think the Trump-Russia thing is a 'nothingburger'.

Theres no way given a normal President that a bill like this would have passed a GOP controlled congress, much less overwhelmingly. They know whats up, too bad the idiots who support them still dont have a clue.

Re: Congress to impose sanctions on Trump's Boss

I think you are 100% right.

I've not heard the operative statement as to why we shouldn't read this bill as a vote of no confidence in Trumpco.

This maybe one of the things we're not supposed to look at.

These things come up from time to time and neither the Dems nor the GOP make hay from them even though they really could—e.g. Perle & Hutchison Whampoa.

Re: Congress to impose sanctions on Trump's Boss

It's good to know "so-called journalists" are in decline. An impressive list for length, but curious: Breitbart, Daily Word and Fox News but not WSJ or among the periodical mentions: National Review, Economist, First Things, Weekly Standard or Commentary.

Kudos for this choice. I don't miss an issue.

Re: Congress to impose sanctions on Trump's Boss

Many people with education and degrees are ignorant partisan hacks too
Yes that is also true and I might add even more deplorable as they should know better.

Being a one-trick pony IT specialist or a some other speciality does not make someone well informed about any other subject including politics
Also true and believe me I have seen even doctors and lawyers who seriously lacked in a broader sense.

It tells me that the republican senators are covering their ass and pandering to the most rabid anti trumpsters in our society

They are nothing more than finger wetters

Oddly many of the same people demanding that trump pander to the euros over the climate change hoax are now ignoring the protests of the same euros on russia sanctions

They have degrees but most of them are not educated in subjects beyond their special expertise

Many partied hardy in college and only had time to really study one subject

The rest of the time they were just faking it

Particulary on boring topics like history or social sciences

If they didn't need the credt to graduate many would never open a history book the entire 4 - 6 years they were in college

Again, anyone with a brain can see what's happening with this vote. And it's sure not pandering.

Trump should run 3rd party in 2020 & get as far away from the globalists & neocons as possible.

I have a brain and what I see is nothing but finger wetting cya by the republicans

I heartily endorse that suggestion. Don't know if he's going to be in the position to do so, however.

I agree. Your brain is sufficiently advanced to allow you to type. But given the evidence, you may want to buckle down more with the frontal lobes and critical thinking skills.

I disagree

Trump has nominal access to the 2nd most adept political machine in the country

Only the democrats are better liars and cheaters and bull****ters then the republicans are

Better for trump to remain in a position of power withing the republican party and use his presidential powers to whip the RINOs in shape or replace them

Thats not a perfect plan either but I don't think he would be reelected by running third party

I think you should stick to bashing trump instead of breaking the forum rules and attacking me

RINOs being who, exactly? One could say that Trump is the ultimate RINO as he supported Democrats up until last year.

Oh no, now Trump will get bombarded by all that incriminating evidence the Kremlin is holding over his head.

That's a good point but there is little doubt IMO that he not only facing a united democratic party hell bent on
doing him damage. Combine that with the Republican Nevertrumpers seeking the same solution as the Democrats & the
established Republicans many of whom have a fondness for big government, immigration & global warming remain
neutral & give only occasional lip service to Trump's agenda. I'm more fed up with them than the obvious obstructionists.

Believing in science is now "pandering to the Euros?" You do know that they are our most trusted allies, and the "disagreement" comes from EU Oil and gas companies who will face penalties for helping Putin to make more of Europe dependent on Russian natural gas. Poor babies, if they don't like it get Putin to leave Crimea. Russia is one big crime network whose people are being left to die in droves. Doing business with that tyrant or his oligarchs should be fined until they stop bleeding their country dry. The Russians own half of Miami already. When is it going to stop?

That was the senate vote for an amendment to the bill, and it still hasn't went to the house.
