I can't believe this. I listened to them all the time. Just so shocking. RIP.

Chester Bennington, the lead vocalist of rap-metal band Linkin Park, was found dead in a Southern California home Thursday, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office confirmed. He was 41.
Law enforcement called the L.A. County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner shortly after 9 a.m. on Thursday, reporting an apparent suicide, said department spokesman Brian Elias. The investigation into Bennington’s death is ongoing.

Sad to hear. It just goes to show how devastating childhood abuse can be. He became a famous rock star, wealthy, but in the end still couldn't get over what happened to him. It permanently takes a chunk out of your soul that you don't get back.

This means that both of Stone Temple Pilots singers are now dead. Very sad. I'm not a big Linkin Park fan, but they had a few good songs. RIP.

RIP :(

My all time favorite is this one, seems especially relevant today.

Fallen.

These things aren't even shocking anymore in the entertainment world. They happen so often.

Wow... really sad! I seen Linkin Park live almost 20 years ago at a three day 30,000+ attendance "White Trash" Festival north of Tampa called "LIveStock".

Condolences to all Chester's family, bandmates, friends and fans. I have genuine appreciation for Chester's impressive body of work in creating and performing music! His Legacy lives on!

Millions upon millions of people suffer from childhood trauma and abuse, not trying to discount his struggle or any other tortured artist out there thats succumbed to depression, but the one thing they usually wind up having in common is a history of drug abuse and addiction

Talk about something taking a chunk out of your soul, addiction creates victims from the addict outward.

Having to contend with or come to terms with trauma and abuse while being addicted and using equates to a impossible task for anyone.

When I hear of these celebrities taking their own lives thats the first thing I suspect, drugs

You have to look at the depravity of Hollywood culture Rosie O, Kathy Griffin, Madonna, Johnny Depp. A culture that the left endorses.

It's purely speculation but it's possible his drug addiction was a result of his childhood abuse. I've known plenty of people who were sexually assaulted as children and pretty much every one of them I can remember became a drug addict and their life has been a disaster. One of the differences I've noticed is the sexual assault victims never really get over it. And of course once you're battling drug addiction it becomes its own additional problem. He could also have mental illness in his family, or attributed to his abuse, or attributed to drug addiction, etc. Being on drugs while you're suicidal is extremely dangerous as it makes it more likely they will go through with it.

There are also plenty of stories of people who clean up from drugs but then commit suicide because they can't find peace sober as well. Many of them will clean up for years, give up, go back on drugs for lack of a better thing to do then take themselves out. Some people are just tortured.

Judy Garland was an addict, as were many going back to even before Reagan was there. This is nothing new. Please keep the politics out.

RIP, Chester.

This sucks. Went to Family Values in '01 and saw STP and Linkin Park perform with a couple other great acts. Too many musicians that I respect are passing away. Rest in peace.

Again, not trying to diminish the suffering that comes from childhood trauma and abuse but I just dont think we as a society properly address just how destructive addiction and drug use can be

Having had my own struggles with addiction when I was younger and seeing those around me self destruct and take their loved ones and family members with them has left a life long and indelible impression on me to the point where im even against legalizing marijuana

It destroys lives and not just the lives of the addict and I just dont understand our current liberal attitudes on drug use

I hear ya, I've had my own struggles with addiction. It's absolutely possible that is what primarily did him in. I just generally see it is a culmination of factors that probably pushed him over the edge.

The liberal attitudes on drug use is the idea that making it legal and a medical condition that is to be openly discussed and treated would be more effective than jail and or a little rehab. A drug free jail can be of help as it forces the person to sober up and they have nothing but time to think. However in a lot of cases the criminal justice system destroys the person's life and makes it even more difficult and that is not helpful.

On an eerie note, today is Chris Cornell's Birthday.

And Chester was a good friend of his.

The "liberal attitude" on drug use is we realize that simply making something illegal doesn't fix the problem at all. As with the case of drugs, it seems to have exacerbated the problem. And you'll find a ton of conservatives with the same attitude.

Im all for enforcing our drug laws and would bet there's a large enough contingent of people who have been forced into treatment and who have been helped by treatment thanks to getting busted to justify continuing to enforce our drug laws.

A drug addict left to their own devices isnt going to seek treatment, they have to hit botom and sometimes thats getting busted and detoxing in jail and then being given a ultimatum by a Judge.

A addict left to his own devices will self destruct, will overdose and die. Addiction warps their perceptions and they wilk refuse treatment

This is naive. A addict left to their own devices isnt going to clean up their lives, seek treatment on their own, care about anyone but themselves

They care about feeding their addiction and nothing else and usually something major has to happen in their lives to force them out of that cycle

Like getting busted, detoxing in County and then given a ultimatum by a judge..

What helps addicts clean up better... Prison facilities or Rehab facilities?

Speaking of "naive". The prisons are flowing with drugs.

I never saw them live. :(

They were really good. Chester Bennington sat in with Stone Temple Pilots that night for a tune off of the Core album. Figured that they probably became friends, so I wasn't surprised when I saw that he recorded an album with them a couple years ago. I am a Stone Temple Pilots fan, so seeing that show was a big deal for me. I think that the other groups on that tour were Staind, Static X, and a regional opening act. I don't remember the name of the group, but they put on a good performance, too.
