[R.I.P.] Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide, authorities say

Re: Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide, authorities

I can't believe this. I listened to them all the time. Just so shocking. RIP.

I liked their music. To me, they were a more rhythmic, jamming version of the Beastie Boys. I liked how Chester and Mike Shinoda mixed their vocals. IMO, they did a fine job of musically representing the angst and frustrations of the millennial generation.

Looks to me like at one of the band members lived it too.

You have to look at the depravity of Hollywood culture Rosie O, Kathy Griffin, Madonna, Johnny Depp. A culture that the left endorses.

Re: Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide, authorities

What helps addicts clean up better... Prison facilities or Rehab facilities?

Speaking of "naive". The prisons are flowing with drugs.

Drug offenders are given alternatives ( believe it or not ) to prison. Like enter into a drug rehabillitation facility or else.

And the existence of drugs in prisons doesnt justify leaving addicts who are caught in a self destructive cycle to their own devices.

Whats naive is to assume legalization would solve any problem let alone help those who are struggling with a addiction

Re: Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide, authorities

That voice. Killer.

RIP Chester.

Re: Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide, authorities

The "liberal attitude" on drug use is we realize that simply making something illegal doesn't fix the problem at all. As with the case of drugs, it seems to have exacerbated the problem. And you'll find a ton of conservatives with the same attitude.

The problem with the "liberal" attitude is you are still accountable for your actions, even if you are on drugs.

A drug addict that murders doesn't deserve rehab. They belong in prison.

Re: Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide, authorities

Liberals in general have a cavalier attitude towards life.

Re: Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide, authorities

Again, not trying to diminish the suffering that comes from childhood trauma and abuse but I just dont think we as a society properly address just how destructive addiction and drug use can be

Having had my own struggles with addiction when I was younger and seeing those around me self destruct and take their loved ones and family members with them has left a life long and indelible impression on me to the point where im even against legalizing marijuana

It destroys lives and not just the lives of the addict and I just dont understand our current liberal attitudes on drug use

as i don't understand the government's response of arrest and incarceration
hell of a way to deal with addictive behavior

back to the thread topic: don't understand one's willingness to quit this world, but it was his life to end. RIP

Moderator's Warning:
This thread has a RIP Tag. Here's a reminder of the Forum rules regarding RIP tagged threads:-

With the recognition that the passing of political leaders (and other figures) can be a tumultuous time stirring up a variety of feelings, from sorrow to elation, the Mod Team has strove to find a solution that will allow all facets of discussion concerning a persons death be done in a civil matter. New threads with a thread tag in the *Breaking News* section, the “R.I.P.” tag should be treated with the same general respect and etiquette one would show at a funeral. It is a thread for members to express their grief or condolences and to speak about the dead or the family of the dead in a respectful way, free of mud slinging. The same story that is used in a R.I.P thread may be used to create a standard thread about the matter as well (and vise versa). Conversation in this thread will run per the normal rules of Debate Politics. Personal attacks about individuals speaking ill of the dead, as per the standard rules, will not be allowed. As long as the discussion remains within the rules and on topic it is fair game.

Going forward, please keep this in mind. Thanks.

Re: Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide, authorities

First Chris Cornell and now Chester? Sad news. RIP. :(

Re: Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide, authorities

On an eerie note, today is Chris Cornell's Birthday.

And Chester was a good friend of his.

My father committed suicide (also with a ligature). The day he did it was the first day after the expiration of the suicide clause of a life insurance policy he had, and the policy was neatly laid out on his office desk. So... I'm left to ponder: Cornell just died in May (also from suicide, and by hanging). Was this a coincidence, or was it a sort of planned farewell? Perhaps we'll never know.

He was. Chester sang hallelujah at Chris's funeral.

Re: Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide, authorities

Im all for enforcing our drug laws and would bet there's a large enough contingent of people who have been forced into treatment and who have been helped by treatment thanks to getting busted to justify continuing to enforce our drug laws.

A drug addict left to their own devices isnt going to seek treatment, they have to hit botom and sometimes thats getting busted and detoxing in jail and then being given a ultimatum by a Judge.

A addict left to his own devices will self destruct, will overdose and die. Addiction warps their perceptions and they wilk refuse treatment

Here is one ex-con, self reformed ex-iv meth user (4 years clean) that says your assessment is wrong, or at least, incomplete.

Re: Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide, authorities

Tragic. So sad and tired of seeing so many celebs succumb to suicide and drug addiction.

Re: Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide, authorities

I remember listening to their music back in the day in my embarrassing years. While it seems I grew out of what I was feeling, he probably never did. Sad to see another person go so early because of this. Drug addiction and sexual abuse can truly destroy someone's life. Hard to say if more could have been done to prevent his death and Cornell's. Both were millionaires that could get any help in the world if they needed it. I guess oftentimes people in their situation just don't. Sad to see.

So you think the solution is to flood the streets with toxic mind altering chemicals via legalizatio. nd leave it to the addicts to self moderate ?

Really ?

I said nothing of the sort, just addressing that some junkies can clean up of their own volition.

Given the recent and increasing number of overdoses and deaths in towns who are hip deep in opiate epidemic, I would say that the majority can not

Again, legalization assumes that the addict has the ability to moderate their drug use, to make intelligent and responsible choices when in fact it just perpetautes the opposite

I do not advocate legalization, except pot and natural phsycedellics.

No one said illegality would fix drug problems. You are straw manning again. Treatment is better than prison. Bottom line. Merely making something illegal doesn't make something go away. That line of thought is what's naive.

And I never sad making drugs illegal would make them go away
Nice strawman yourself

Correct. Making something illegal drives it underground. It's a 2 for one : the government gets fancy new departments that need funding to fight the inevitable mafia takeover of the market, and the prison industrial complex gets more taxpayer funded residents.

Why conservatives think prohibition, which has NEVER worked, will fix anything is beyond me. Take their arguments about bans "war on drugs" and substitute "guns" for "drugs".

It's a proven failure.

A local radio station is renting time on a digital billboard to pay tribute to Chester.:)
