John McCain is an honorable man who has served his country well throughout his life time. And he is a war hero, contrary to what the Ass Clown sitting in the Oval office said about him.

Actually, what it really shows is why Trump cultists are so scorned by your average American of the democratic or moderate stripe. John McCain is one of the last of the moderately sane Republicans left in this country. His biggest lapse of judgment was in choosing Sarah Palin as his VP pick when running for president, and unleashing her on this country. It did a lot of damage. But otherwise, he is a good man and has done a huge amount of service for this country, both in the military and as a distinguished senator.

And McCain was tortured so badly is infirmity is permanent. McCain can't raise his left arm above his shoulder.

This is a thread about a man's struggle with cancer.

He is a smart man and knows that even with the best access to health care he is pretty screwed.

He has difficult decisions and a difficult road ahead of him.

I think the word "tragedy" is not correct. McCain has lived a good life and will likely get to say goodbye to his family before dying. A tragedy would be more like being murdered. Just my two cents.

He essentially gets to go out on his terms.

Hey, he's an asshole, too, maybe even a bigger one than Hillary, but at least I don't have to worry about him appointing a Sonia Sotomayor or Elena Kagan clone to the Supreme Court.
 
This is very sad news. It is the same aggressive type of brain cancer Ted Kennedy had and died from when he was working in the Senate. Very tragic!

Long-term senate membership is carcinogenic to swimmers and fliers alike.

I'd still like to know how McCain's misfortune will affect the broader healthcare legislation process.

Obviously McCain is now painfully personally aware of the importance of ADEQUATE healthcare.

Would his fellow senators knowing of McCain's experience still vote for McConnell care, and bump tens of millions of U.S. citizens out of ACA coverage?

We had a friend in his mid-30's get that same cancer. They gave him 3 months, but he made it a little over a year. That particular cancer is wicked.

McCain did change his tune recently by reaching out to the Democrats unlike many of his fellow senators. Most of them do not give a cr*p about sick people not being able to access affordable DECENT care. They are basically allowing the insurance companies to offer any kind of cr*p to people who have a hard time affording care. They don't care if those people are being taken advantage of by insurance companies.

His speech has become labored and ponderous, he seems confused by the subject matter of hearings, and has some difficulty processing what people are saying to him. He's a shadow of the man he was a year ago. It was bad enough that people genuinely thought he may have had a stroke during the Comey hearing. The Sessions hearing was just as bad. His staff attributed it to a late night watching football, but I think we know now what's really happening.
