Minneapolis woman shot and killed by police after calling 911 to report assault, fami

Re: Minneapolis woman shot and killed by police after calling 911 to report assault,

That depends on WHY he shot, right?

That should have been reported immediately. You should not be able to (accidentally?) draw, aim and fire a gun within feet of a police officer and have no questions asked. There is at least one witness - the officer between the shooter and the victim. I can see absolutely no reason that the other officer in the car (not involved in the shooting) did not issue a public statement. Either that officer decided (on the spot?) that the shooting was accidental or justified or they should have made an arrest.

Re: Minneapolis woman shot and killed by police after calling 911 to report assault,

This doesn't make any sense at all. There is a ton of stuff missing from this story.
Right now it is looking very bad for these cops I am afraid. as it stands now I
see murder charges.

That is the low-probability outcome.

Police murdering civilians is the way we do things here in the US. What percentage of police murders are even prosecuted? Very low prob.

Re: Minneapolis woman shot and killed by police after calling 911 to report assault,

hehe...maybe, but mainly because of the fact that the usual suspects will likely be a little quieter on this one...after all, who do you support? The nice white lady, or the never-failing cops? Silence is probably an easier option...

I don't support either. On it's face it looks like intentional stupidity on the part of the officer.

At the same time, we have to consider that it may have been unintentional stupidity. It may have been an accidental discharge. The OP makes it sound as if he drew, aimed and fired. He may, as a precaution, had his gun drawn and pointed in her direction.

I won't criticize the cop for having his gun out of the holster. He doesn't know this woman, nor her intentions. But, damn, at least have enough care and familiarity with the gun to keep from accidentally discharging it.

If it was an accidental discharge, the cop in the driver's seat should be mad as ****, since it could have just as easily been him. I know I would be.

Re: Minneapolis woman shot and killed by police after calling 911 to report assault,

You don't seem to cry about it any other time. Why is that? :lamo

Sorry I'm not around every time you whine with race baiting.

You can drop it, now.

Re: Minneapolis woman shot and killed by police after calling 911 to report assault,

An unarmed woman who had called 911 was talking to a cop through the driver's side window when the cop's partner pulled a weapon and shot past his fellow officer to kill the woman he was talking to.

There just has to be more to the story than that, otherwise it makes no sense at all.

I don't actually disagree with this. I just wish the same scrutinization of the police was there when it's *not* a nice white lady. It's hard to read this thread after reading all the threads where BLM complaints are summarily dismissed. Doesn't it seem a bit problematic to you that suddenly, with a white woman involved, we are suddenly willing to allow for the possibility that a cop actually f-ed up?

There does, but who knows if we'll ever get it. The police tend to do their best to cover for their fellow officers.

Minneapolis woman shot and killed by police after calling 911 to report assault, family says

Minneapolis woman shot and killed by police after calling 911 to report assault, family says – Twin Cities

A woman was shot to death late Saturday by police responding to a 911 call in south Minneapolis.

Two Minneapolis police officers responded about 11:30 p.m. to a report of a possible assault in the 5100 block of Washburn Avenue South, according to the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, which is investigating the incident. One of the officers shot and killed the woman.

No further details were released Sunday by the BCA.

Investigators are seeking video of the incident. The officers’ body cameras were not turned on during the shooting, and the squad-car camera did not capture it, according to the BCA.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the past year the Twin Cities has been a hot bed of anti police sentiment because of the Philando Castile murder.
Now we have this police involved killing in which the police body cams were OFF and there is NO police dash cam video.
Police are not stating if the woman that was killed had a weapon so, the prevailing opinion is she most likely was not armed.

Here we go again Twin Cities ............

White chick? Don't expect to see any more about this after today.

I would say the exact same thing if she had been black.

At the same time, we don't know she was "a nice white lady", either.

I'm sure it WAS reported immediately to the superiors. An investigation will go into the shooting and the details will come out in trial if needed.

This is why I believe that sovereign immunity needs to be abolished for all government employees. Cops and DAs have way too much power.

That would create a scenario where no one wants to be a cop; no one we want to be a cop, anyway.

Are you saying that the only reason people want to be cops is because they can get away with shooting people? I dont believe that- if anything it will get rid of the trash and the really compassionate people will be the ones who want to be cops.

Sentence one: mmm...I'm not sure about that, I've been reading you for a while now, I'm not sure that statement lines up with what you've posted before. But, ok, I'll take it at face value, if only to encourage it in future posts. But you know a lot of folks on here that would respond exactly as I suggested, as is evidenced by all the posts that made me form that opinion, available for all to see throughout this forum.

Sentence two: True enough. I should have put quotes around "nice white lady", as I was referring more to the perception than the specific incident - the generalization and resulting assumptions based on simply seeing her picture. But you're right, we don't know anything for sure, it's all anecdotal at this point. However, in the court of public opinion no one waits for "proof" anymore, and were this not a "nice white lady", you and I both know the rhetoric that would have formed this thread, vs. what we're seeing now.

Re: Minneapolis woman shot and killed by police after calling 911 to report assault,

Yup...and the "other side" would be saying she deserved it. Crazy world, huh?

No, your premise is crazy. Outside fo storm front and other wack sites, such a thing would never be said.

Re: Minneapolis woman shot and killed by police after calling 911 to report assault,

My first question would be, are officers required to use body cams inside their vehicles?

After that, everything seems really odd.

I would say any time they are going to deal with the public in any type of manner that it be recorded.
whether they are sitting in their car or not.

hyperbole is hyperbole congrats you win the award.

Renae, come on, you know the problem is bigger than that, you read the same posts in here that I do, and you know that that mentality is far more widespread than just a couple wackadoo websites.

PS: I'm being nice to you today, don't call me crazy, you and I don't do well when it comes to name calling... ;)

Feel free to point out any inconsistancy. In these scenarios, rarely, if ever have I failed to suggest other possibilities vice taking things at face value.

Sometimes cops need to be able to get away with shooting people. If you create an environment where cops can be prosecuted even for an obviously justified shooting, then no one will want to be a cop. That won't be helpful to our society.

If its a justified shooting then Im pretty sure the community would rally around the cops involved so there would still be no need for sovereign immunity.

What if they don't? The cop gets fried, anyway? That will be the recipe for the most dysfunctional law enforcement community in existence.
