Ivanka Trump Sat In for Her Father at the G-20 Leaders' Table

Use your imagination. Do you really think, knowing all we do about Donald Trump, he's letting policy being formulated without his approval and input?

Your denial is so inept, I don't even know where to begin. If you're going to try to snow me, at least be artful about it.

Opportunitycost:

There is no need for ad hominem attacks here. I am not trying to do a snow-job on anyone. I am asking a legal question and looking for comments and possible answers from posters here. I really did not understand your use of the word "vacuum" in your above posts. President Trump may very well know and approve of his daughter's initiatives and goals. That to me is not the point. The point is answering the question, "Is Ms. Trump's appointment legal and are her actions legal given US statute and US legal tradition?".

Nations which follow the rule of law have a far better hope of remaining free and democratic than nations which follow the rule of man (based on personal loyalty, homage and personal fealty to the head of state). So if the US is swinging away from the rule of law and towards the rule of man, where a cult of personality supplants adherence to the law and the constitution, then that is worth talking about. That same swing occurred in Italy, Russia/The USSR, Portugal, Spain, Germany and China in the first half of the 20th Century and did great harm to all those nations and to world peace. It may or may not be happening in America today but it is prudent to ask questions in order to see whether a similar process is unfolding here in North America now. President Trump and his family are not above the law.

Of all the things that scare the hell out of me with Trump in the WH, Ivanka keeping her daddy's chair warm in a room full of international leaders isn't even a blip on my radar.

Why was Ivanka Trump, a private citizen and not a US Federal government employee, given the task of replacing her father at a table with recognised world leaders seated all around her? Why instead was not a professional US Federal diplomat or employee given the task? What legal mandate does Ms. Trump have to represent the USA at such high level meetings even as a passive observer?

IMO, Ivanka is more intelligent, and thus better qualified, than her father. I feel it's still inappropriate, but... at least it was one less opportunity for Trump the man to make an ass of himself, again.

According to the article she didn't speak while sitting at those tables so diplomatic experience is not required.

Also she didn't fill in due to Trump being tired. According to the article he was holding meetings with other people at those times she sat in for him.
Then why did anyone at all need to be there?

What makes you think she is doing such things in a vacuum? What would make you think so?

As for the familial connections, you do remember the Kennedys, don't you?
...which is why laws were passed afterward to address that.

Laws that are supposed to address this, but it seems no one on either side has the guts to actually enforce them.

Pictures like this are worthless, only serving at the pleasure of the presenter. There is nothing to establish the timing of the picture, what led up to the time, what followed or what is framed in.
Anyone can look at it out of context and apply any meaning they desire.

How about this, Trump is seated waiting for the dinner to begin, meanwhile, a group of men are in a heated discussion of what's for dinner, man in the background is about ready to pass out from lack of food, a woman to the right is checking her cell to see if the food is on the way while a guy to the right is passing time by doing some sort of weird dance moves.

See, without full context you can build whatever you want, how about a perfect metaphor in that United States is the only one taking the event serious while the rest clown around?

Politics is as much about forming friendships and relationships as anything else.

I don't see anything wrong with this, but why was she there in the first place? Didn't she say she tries to stay out of politics? Very confounding.
Actions speak louder than words. I would find it questionable that literally no one else was available.

Did she sign any agreement or propose any treaties?

Her husband does hold an official title.

This is the latest angle to attack the Trumps.

Small and narrow minds have little else left to do but attack the Trumps. It amazes me that so many of the members here aren't more curious about what her father was doing during the same time. How easily these fish are gut hooked by bright and shiny objects.

Ivanka is perfectly qualified, holding a PhD in International Relations. Oh, Wait! That's Chelsea Clinton.

Actually, Ivanka Trump did get a bachelor's degree in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Not a PhD, but not chopped liver either.

4) Since family members acting in the stead of the official leader happens a lot in multiple countries all over the globe, this seems like a overly concerned point rather than a relevant one.

Care to list those countries?

Perhaps because they will be hard to enforce...guessing.

It sounds entirely too much like feigned innocence to actually be that.

See you actually got it in the last line, you didn't need any convincing, you were already sure of your position.

Well if if it followed the family tradition, she did not earn her degree... but her father bought it.

Backtracking? It doesn't matter which president whether it be Bush or Clinton or Reagan , having your child sit in for you with government leaders is going to cause a response from the other side.

Not acknowledging that is just full of baloney. To claim otherwise is total dishonesty and you know it along with everyone else here. But you keep deflecting.

This is much to do about about nothing...as I previously noted.

I don't think that's fair. From what I've observed she's very intelligent, and even "driven" and a hard worker. She also comes off to me as a basically good person, though due to her upbringing influences, probably has some ethical holes that need attention.

I'm certain the members attending were much more enamored by Ivanka's presence than her father's. ;)
