Canadian baby given health card without sex designation - CNN.com

(CNN)A Canadian baby has been issued a health document that doesn't specify male or female, in what campaigners are claiming is a possible "world first."
Searyl Atli Doty was born in British Columbia, "outside the medical system," and did not undergo a genital inspection after birth, campaign group Gender Free I.D. Coalition said in a statement. The group's vision, stated on its website, is "to remove all gender/sex designations from identity documents."

Parent Kori Doty, who is non-binary trans, wants to avoid assigning gender to the child.

"It is up to Searyl to decide how they identify, when they are old enough to develop their own gender identity," Doty said in the statement. "I am not going to foreclose their choices based on an arbitrary assignment of gender at birth based on an inspection of their genitals."

I mean, maybe it's a goat. Right?

This gender identity stupidity has entered the realm of criminal absurdity.

Our DNA has mutated into a scary crop of deranged and dangerous lunatics.

I don't appreciate it when some extreme leftists refuse to make the important difference between sex & gender.

(I realize this has been said countless times)

Sex is biological. Sex can be defined based on chromosomes & genitals. (Okay in some rare cases there are medical complications, but in general it's pretty straight forward).

Gender however has everything to do with identity. You can be, sexually speaking, a male & identify as a female. Yet, biologically, you will still be male.

I really don't see what the problem is with this. If you aren't comfortable with your gender I have no problem if you want to identify has the other. What I don't appreciate is making stuff up & denying basic facts in order to feel better about your chosen identity.

You can identify as a bird, that doesn't mean you have wings and a beak.

Why do you care? If the kids' parents think is this a good idea, then that's their business.

I think Canada has more of a "live and let live" attitude then some other places in regards to personal choices one makes.

I guess it depends. The government does have some say in how parents raise their kids. For instance, Compulsory Attendance Laws in some States mandate that parents have to send their kids to school (which is a good thing). Perhaps raising kids without assigning them any biological sex will force them to live through a difficult childhood (correcting fellow classmates on the correct pronoun, being teased etc.).

I don't appreciate the government being mixed up with private family life. However, this decision could affect the kid for his whole life, it may be important to offer him some sort of protection. In some countries you can't name your kid whatever you want, which is also a good thing. I guess it's all a matter of where you draw the line.

Except we should give the parents a fair amount leeway to determine what is best for their kids, you have to prove more active harm coming from their decisions then what we see here.

This isn't abuse, some people could say they agree or disagree with this decision, but since this is not abuse, its ultimately not anyone else's business.

Indeed. If it is or isn't abuse should be determined. Let's look at it this way : do you support the right of every parent to name their child whatever the hell they want ? Should they be allowed to name their child "Bubblebutt The 3rd" ?

I do support giving your kid a name that will adversely affect them later on, but I think there is a better case to say that promotes harm this non gender birth certificate does.

I think nothing will come of this, children thinking they belong to another gender is more rare then people believe, so it won't really affect the kid and since other kids will not know about the certificate it won't affect the way other kids interact with this kid.

Really depends how he will be raised. In general school is quite segregated, boys hang out with boys & girls hang out with girls. Who will this kid hang out with ?

I agree it's not really a problem for society in general. Just makes me wonder how this kid will fit in. But that's the parents problem. If they encourage him to correct people so that they use his correct pronoun, it could sure affect is interaction with other kids.

I'm sure this kid will eventually identify with one or the other, and hang out w/ them.

That's not my business, that's for the kid and the parents to work out.

I don't think teaching your kid the world is 6000 years old is a good idea, but that's not grounds for the government to get involved and override the parents decisions.

If the parents try to force a different gender on the kid against the kid's wishes, that would be abuse, this is nothing.

We have a bunch of conservatives in this thread who complain about this, yet these are often the same people who say the government stay out of how parents raise their kids, when the parents are making decisions they support.

I am annoyed by that double standard.

Or maybe he'll be mowed down by a farm tractor. Who knows ?

Or maybe he'll fall in love with it and wanna marry it...it'll probably be law soon...

Genderless babies are marrying tractors!!! Are you not satisfied LIBRULS!?!?

SJW ideas gone too far.

Ideas and feelings about identity do not trump biology.

Gender identity and sex are two different things altogether anyway. The kids is either male or female. I hope the SJW insanity doesn't come to where I live.

Actually , some babies are born with both sets of sex organs.

In cases like that the parents usually pick and the doctors perform surgery to remove the other set of organs before the child leaves the hospital.

It sounds like this may be case where the baby had two sets of organs and instead of going through tests and the parents deciding for the child , they going to wait for the child to decide which gender the child wants to be.

A distant cousin of mine was one such child.

His parents chose that he be a male so the female organs were removed.

He is steril as are most who were/are born both sexes, but he now has a wife and they both seem happy.

Case in point....

Be careful when you use those bathrooms, you never know who may be masquerading around in a body of lies. Woogie boogie!

From a very interesting article about intersex children and adults in Australia.

I found it interesting that 1.7 percent of the population is born with intersexual traits.

As a child, Cody believes she was treated like a “dumb kid” by medical staff.

“There was no way to give informed consent to anything they ever asked of me, because they never presented the information,” Cody says.
Like many other Australian adults who are intersex, Cody was operated on as a baby.
While she deeply loves her parents and believes they made the best possible decision with the information they had at the time, Cody still wonders if she was “turned into a woman, whether or not that was something I’ve wanted to be.”
<snip>

While there’s no expert consensus on how many types of intersex variations exist, a recently released United Nations fact sheet explains that up to 1.7 per cent of the population “is born with intersex traits.”
To put this in context, it means about 407,000 people in Australia may have an intersex variation.

Facepalm. Just because you're messed up doesn't mean your kid is. Some people shouldn't be parents.

Criminal you say, perhaps your post could be considered criminal absurdity as well.
You could always find them, fly up to Canada, appear at the door and ask to see the babies genitals.
