Senate Democrat blasts 'Obamaphone' over fraudulent findings, lack of oversight

Re: Senate Democrat blasts 'Obamaphone' over fraudulent findings, lack of oversite

*sigh* cant figure out how to post video (yeah, I know, hee he) can someone please post obamaphone lady remix, thanks.
First find a youtube link. (I've heard you can use video from other locations but I've never tried.

Then type "video" twice wrapped in bracket like this...

Re: Senate Democrat blasts 'Obamaphone' over fraudulent findings, lack of oversite

Yeah. Almost as bad as the missing billions in Iraq that Bush could never account for.

So that is the liberals excuse?

Everybody does it?

Re: Senate Democrat blasts 'Obamaphone' over fraudulent findings, lack of oversite

Do you guys really think that making a phone available to those who need it is something evil? If you think so, perhaps you have never been in need and don't understand how vital this service is for some to dig themselves out of a hole.
Do you think that, because we call it Obamaphone, it is only Democrats who are in need?
Can you name one entitlement or program that hasn't been abused?
Do you have any compassion, or do you have nothing left in your souls than partisanship?
Listen to yourselves.

You don't need a free smartphone to survive in the world. Millions of Americans don't have one and they manage just fine. I have no problem with poor people getting a free flip phone that costs twenty bucks. They however do not need a 100-800 dollar smartphone from the government.

Especially the dead ones. ;)

no I think paying out billions of taxpayer dollars to people that shouldn't be getting it is evil.
36% of the people didn't qualify and a bunch of others had more than 1.

that didn't include the people that were dead that had a phone so please tell us how that is cruel
that we don't want dead people having phones.

yours is the perfect problem with appeal to emotion arguments.

Senate Democrat blasts 'Obamaphone' over fraudulent findings, complete lack of oversight' | Fox News

The GAO report found that about 10.6 million people have an Obamaphone, but 36 percent of them may not qualify, according to the Washington Times. The audit also concluded that more than 5,500 people were found to be enrolled for two phones, while the program was paying for about 6,400 phones for persons the government has listed as dead, the paper reported.

complete lack of oversight has cost taxpayers billions of dollars.

The so-called "Obamaphone" program, also known as the Lifeline Program, was begun in 1986, under Ronald Reagan. It was expanded in 1996 under Bill Clinton, and expanded to cell phones in 2008 under the Tracphone Program, during the Bush administration.

But, of course, leave it to FOX News to lie about the program. That's what they do.

they didn't lie at all. It has nothing to do with Reagan or Clinton.
Obama expanded the program to include cell phones.

there has been no oversight over that since 2008.
it has cost us a ton of money in waste and fraud
as the people running the program just handed them out without seeing if people qualified for it.

so the question is why are you being dishonest?

also if you realize it is democrats raising a stink about it.

that has nothing to do with the topic. why can't you respond to the topic?

The OP is just there to use a lie to smear dems/Obama. Setting the record straight on the OP's lie is on topic.

It was greatly expanded under Obama and it was Obama mismanaging that expansion which led to fraud.
Did Obama manage this program himself or this is just your usual partisan crap? Come to think of it, Obama couldn't have so it is the later.

Re: Senate Democrat blasts 'Obamaphone' over fraudulent findings, lack of oversite

The free internet on the smartphones is particularly important in order to watch porn.
Is that what you do with yours?

Re: Senate Democrat blasts 'Obamaphone' over fraudulent findings, lack of oversite

Yep along with a multitude of other benefits and features. I pay for the privilege out of my own pocket. I don't need a smart phone with Internet connection to survive, however I work full-time so that I can pay for extra privileges. The free phones that Have been handed out like candy or supposed to be for emergencies another life-saving benefits. No Internet at taxpayer expense.

But since most liberals are unemployed they don't understand what it's like to actually earn what they have. That's why they don't think twice about spending other People's Money on something frivolous.

Good on you then.

I am sure that you are the only one in this universe.

Please spare me your usual partisan idiocy.

That's why they don't think twice about spending other People's Money on something frivolous.
Have you figured out yet who oversees the program?

The program started under Reagan, so it's it's either a Reaganphone or it's attributed to the current president which makes it a Trumpphone.

I thought it was Bush 2...or was that the cell phone portion?

I don't have a problem with it in general. I have a problem with people who take advantage of a program meant to help people, which then turns everyone else against the program.

OK, so it is, I never heard about it until the Obama years, anywhere you applied for any government assistance, they pushed a phone on you. Here in this little town, they were hawking smart phones in front of grocery stores and would proudly tell you" All you need is a foodstamp card".

I never saw this until the Obama years.

"Community Out Reach" at it's finest?

Anyway, it was in fact during the Obama administration where seemingly any level of fraud was acceptable to get one of those free phones. There were a number of investigative reports, mostly ignored by the biased MSM, that came out about this.

No, the expansion to cell phones was in 2008. Obama was not in office then. Bush was.

I don't have a problem with it in general. I have a problem with people who take advantage of a program meant to help people, which then turns everyone else against the program.

That is a problem of oversight, not a problem with the program itself. Sadly, I think that a lot of people became more worried about it since we started calling it Obamaphone.

Just a general comment - Fox News article linking to the Moony Times, which apparently doesn't like to link to underlying documents. Calls it Obamaphone, but the program long predated Obama. Great article!

Anyway, here's the report if anyone's interested: https://www.gao.gov/assets/690/684974.pdf

From what I can tell the problem is pretty obvious - the carriers charge customers a fee to fund the program, Feds don't really care how the money is spent, the people selling phones don't care who gets them - they just want to sell funds. So there's really no one in the loop who has an incentive to really care whether a person getting a phone qualifies or not.

Obama's administration did everything in their power to make sure that there was no oversight.
