Dozens of people protested the newly proposed Republican health-care legislation outside the Capitol Hill office of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Thursday — a demonstration that resulted in the arrest of 43 disability advocates.

U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman Eva Malecki said officers warned the demonstrators to “cease their unlawful activities” or risk being arrested. Those who did not comply were arrested and charged with crowding and obstructing.

Another violent liberal protest, thank god the police were there to end the wheelchair riots...

“The American Health Care Act caps and significantly cuts Medicaid which will greatly reduce access to medical care and home and community based services for elderly and disabled Americans who will either die or be forced into institutions,” Bruce Darling, an ADAPT organizer, wrote in a statement before the protests. “Our lives and liberty shouldn’t be stolen to give a tax break to the wealthy. That’s truly un-American.”

Their liberty to do what exactly? Would that be to benefit off taxes paid by their fellow citizens? People keep acting like have a right to welfare when nothing in law supports their case.

The protest wasn't violent.

It's kinda ****ed up to use your disability as a shield from following the rules.

What about this rule?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

These people were peaceably assembling, at Congress, petitioning the government, and exercising their right to free speech.

But yeah, it's real ****ed up that a bunch of disabled people tried to use their disability into shaming a representative into not cutting funding to their insurance. The insurance they need to survive their disability. They might die, but let's not forget the importance of Congress' right to ignore the consequences of their actions. It's so unfair they wanted to remind the people possibly deciding whether they will live or die, that their actions will have consequences. Just super unfair.

*Sarcasm Warning: that was sarcasm, I'm hereby notifying all the stupid people in this sentence that do not understand sarcasm through context, that was sarcasm.

People were dragged out of wheelchairs for peacefully assembling, how much freaking kool aid have you drank. In no way, shape, or form is that ever going to be right.

These guys have to work, like their constituents want them to.
I won't be shamed for disliking the behavior of "disabled" people who want to use it as a shield of responsibility.

I bet you and they have no freaking clue about the proposed law and what, if anything, will do to their medical care.

We know it cuts medicaid. Long or short period.

They have the right to petition the government for whatever they want, and the right to peacefully assemble for whatever reason they want. Are you saying its ok to forcefully stop them doing that, just because you don't agree with their ideas?

Did anyone else ever notice how liberals don't seem to be learning anything from all these efforts to undermine welfare? Hey liberals, perhaps its a bad idea to pass programs that cause dependence. You know, because a day might come when your opposition gets into power and takes steps to destroy them.

Nobody was arrested for peacefully assembling or petitioning the government. Try again.

“I’m proud to be one of the people here protesting,” she said. “Most people are opposed to this bill, yet it is still moving along.”

You mean like how most people were opposed to Medicaid and the ACA before they passed? How shocking that your opposition is ignoring public support when passing law like your party did when it passed your beloved Medicaid and ACA. It sucks to have things come full circle, don't it?

I know that Mitch dodged patient advocacy groups, while attending donor events for insurance companies. I know the reason we don't know what is in it, is because they wrote it behind closed doors in secrecy. I know what the CBO says it will do. And I know that if they're willing to yank disabled people out of wheelchairs in violation of the first amendment, they probably didn't have their best interest at heart when they wrote the bill.

I gave up on Conservatives feeling shame after Nov 8 2016.

Either you are trying to change history, or you only consider white middle aged conservatives people in your "most people" narrative. Now stop deflecting from your overlords latest atrocity. You know, the whole having disabled people pulled from wheelchairs and arrested for a peaceful protest.

They don't have a right to block people from going about their day.

The protesters staged a “die-in” in front of the office, with many of the protesters in wheelchairs removing themselves from the chairs then lying on the floor.

Sounds like they removed themselves from the wheelchairs.

You know, its easy enough for Conservatives to understand "shall make no laws" as it applies to the second, but for some reason the first and fourth they struggle with the concept of nuisance work around laws with flimsy excuses designed for the express purpose of alienating an unalienable right.

I missed the amendment that ranks peoples right to not be inconvenienced over the first amendment. Care to point that one out for me.

Stop with your crocodile tears.
Being disabled doesn't make you immune to societal norms and consideration.

You mean norms like freedom of speech and right to petition the government with grievances, or the right to assemble? Literally the things included in the document that created our society. Those kinds of norms? Is human dignity a norm? What did they do that violated societal norms?

If a right wing christians can use their faith to justify half the bull**** they do, disabled people can use their disability. Seems normal to me.

I don't care what you attempt to use to justify not following the rules.
It's generally not a good enough reason.

I don't think any constituent ever envisioned their Senator working in absolute secrecy.

Yeah, that's the point of the constitution. It tells you what rules congress can make. And if they make one that violates the constitution, then you don't have to follow that rule.

Seeing as the Amendment in question says

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Who's not following the rules?

So in your opinion do they have a right to block people from going in and out of their office?
