WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear an appeal from a Colorado baker with religious objections to same-sex marriage who had lost a discrimination case for refusing to create a cake to celebrate such a union.

The case will be a major test of a clash between laws that bar businesses open to the public from discriminating based on sexual orientation and claims of religious freedom. Around the nation, businesses like bakeries, florists and photography studios have said, so far with little success, that forcing them to serve gay couples violates their constitutional rights.
Will be interesting to see what they decide

I still don't get why the supreme court just ignores claims on the grounds of association, property and involuntary servitude. I realize the courts have already ruled on those arguments, but their reasoning for rejecting them is idiotic and frankly unacceptable.

I'm with ya pard, I hate trade.

I hate when it's forced. No one has a right to the property of others. Hell, they don't even have a right to anyone else's time.

**** religion.

that's really helpful-

Not

the fact is the left has been doing everything possible to erase religion from the USA because many of the left see government as the one true god

I'll see if I can locate some rage as well, k?

That is great news. I hope they come down on the side of the bakers.

There is really no hope of that happening. The courts abandoned reason when it came to anti-discrimination laws long ago.

As long as you have a category for everyone.

An anecdote for you to take away, Fenton.

My church in North Carolina (which is edging around swingy-state-status) has maybe about ~100 or so folks in it. Of those, maybe 2 or 3 were actual Trump fans. Emotions from the rest of us ranged from distaste to dislike to active opposition.

And yet, probably only 2 or 3 of us didn't vote for him (I'm one of those).

Because Democrats have convinced members of my Church that they are actively hostile to them - that they are a threat to them. Members of my church also looked at bakers in Colorado and thought "that could be me." They looked at Memories Pizza owners and thought "that could definitely be me".

Attitudes like yours helped give us Trump. Because people who disliked Trump and would have been easy "gets" for a Democrat party willing to even cede tolerance of those who believed differently saw that they weren't, and figured, better a bully who's not actively hostile to us than a bully who is.

What a bunch of absolute horse-pucky.

You really think? After all, the anti-discrimination law is contradictory to the Constitutional protection of religious practice. Usually constitutional would take precedent over subsidiary law in rule of law societies.

That has been the main irritant in the present situation.

nah thats bull**** the left is trying to separate the government from religion and end discrimination based on religion because those things lead to people being assholes

the government is run by humans and they just want it to benefit us

The courts already ignored basic reason when it comes to these kind of laws. They support these laws and will twist anything and everything on its head to get their way. When you have a court claim that forced labor was not a condition of black slavery there is really no limit to the amount of bull**** they're willing to spew out.

That is great news. I hope they come down on the side of the bakers.

Just checking here, are you fine with bakers who won't sell their products to:

A) fat people
B) women
C) black people
D) foreigners
E) anyone with blue eyes
F) ugly people

Are you saying any company, should have the right to turn away any business, for any reason they wish?

I mean, I pretty much feel that way, but I would suggest businesses who do that should have such things clearly stated, in writing in their store front, so that customers
can see who they're dealing with.

If I were a betting man, there is some sentiment to reverse the decision of the lower courts

Sentiment?? Myself it leaves a business with the ability to discriminate.

**** religion.

Why the nasty remark?
Now go to a Muslim restaurant and order a BLT and a beer. Do you think they have a right not to serve what you ordered? Is it possible for you to go elsewhere?
Why do these people have to be so egotistical and stubborn, insisting they must get their darn cake at that particular bakery?
Yes, they made a point. They want to be accepted. What they don't see is their own intolerance. Accepting others for who they are is a two way street. Selfish and small minded, and unless they challenge other faiths, they are cowards too.
All of us have a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, not just a few.

Sentiment?? Myself it leaves a business with the ability to discriminate.

and that is where we differ. I don't believe the federal government has the proper power to tell a business who it has to deal with. I don't agree with discrimination but I also don't agree with the federal government usurping powers it never was properly given
