MCCONNELL: Senate GOP healthcare bill coming on Thursday, vote next week
According to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the text of the Senate GOP healthcare bill will be released this Thursday (22 June 2017). Portions of the Senate GOP healthcare bill have been sent in dribs and drabs to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and McConnell expects the CBO score of the bill (letting everyone know its particulars regarding people and money) by Monday or Tuesday. McConnell wants the Senate to then vote on this bill asap after the CBO score ... before most Americans have any time realize how this legislation impacts their lives and before citizens have any opportunity to either pose questions or protest the bill. McConnell is also terrified of the media having any time to examine the bill and thus the hurry up vote. The margin for victory is slim and McConnell can only afford two Senate GOP "no" votes. No similar major legislation in American history has ever been crafted in such draconian secrecy. Such autocratic secrecy is what can happen when one political party controls both the Executive and Legislative branches of government.
The Senate GOP has crafted its healthcare bill, which will affect 350 million Americans, in total secrecy with only a handful of GOP Senators handpicked by McConnell participating in writing the bill. There has been not even one public hearing, no open discussion whatsoever, and no town hall meetings with constituents. McConnell intends to ram this secret healthcare down everyone's throat, and then quickly declare the July 4th recess so GOP Senators can slither home and avoid the public and the media. Perhaps more than anything else, the GOP healthcare legislation of 2017 will define the composition of the US Congress in 2018/2020.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters Tuesday that the Senate GOP's healthcare bill will be released on Thursday and a vote will come as soon as next week. The move had long been speculated, but McConnell's confirmation sets the upper chamber on a fast track for a huge vote. McConnell said that the vote will happen as soon as the Congressional Budget Office releases its report on the bill, which should be some time next week. The CBO score is necessary since the Senate bill must save as much or more against the federal deficit than the House of Representatives version. Additionally, the House's bill showed that 23 million fewer people will have health insurance by 2026 than under the current system. If the Senate bill is just as bad, or worse, it could deter some Senators from voting for the bill.
