The suspect in the Finsbury Park mosque attack has been named as Darren Osborne, a 47-year old married father of four living in a Cardiff suburb who recently voiced a hatred of Muslims.

According to witnesses, Osborne shouted, “I want to kill all Muslims” as he drove a van into a crowd of worshippers in north London in the small hours of Monday morning. One person died and 11 were injured; Osborne survived the attack and was arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of terrorism including murder and attempted murder.

Camera phone footage showed him being captured by worshippers, who attacked him as he screamed, “Kill me.” When he was eventually arrested and loaded into the back of a police van in handcuffs, he waved to the gathered crowd.

On Monday, neighbours in Pentwyn said that over the weekend, Osborne had called a 12-year-old Muslim neighbour an “inbred” and had been thrown out of a local pub for getting drunk, “cursing Muslims and saying he would do some damage”.

No, not surprising, I anticipated something like this, I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. There have been quite a few Islamic extremist attacks all over Europe, London's mayor thinks these are to be expected in a global city, it's the new "normal" for crowds to get run over, trains and buses to suddenly explode. Islamic extremists have been the perpetrators, but now we've got this "loon" doing the same thing against Muslims.

I don't expect we will now see some wave of Islamophobic attacks, Islamophobia will naturally grow in this new "normal" and as it does the likelihood someone like Osborne will try to reciprocate increases.
 
How is it witnesses at the pub heard him curse Muslims and say "he was going to do some damage" and nothing was reported? You would think with as many terror attacks that has happened there lately they would be on alert for stuff like this. Also, given that his neighbors had never previously had issues with him, it makes me wonder if a relative or friend had died in the previous attacks to cause him to snap like he did.
 
Would you call the police if you heard some guy in a bar mouthing off about Muslims saying "he was going to do some damage"? Could a reasonable person just chalk it up to the rantings of some drunken lout? With the recent Islamic extremist attacks in England I'd figure the pubs must be full of loud mouthed blokes cursing the Muslims.

But his friends say he used to dance, eat pork, and drink beer. Yep, definitely a lone wolf who isn't tied to a bigger movement.

Of course, no question, I would definitely report such behaviour to the Police.

A witness has come forward and stated that he saw a man sleeping in a van matching the description of the one used in the attack late on Saturday night. He claimed he went to speak to the man and his breath smelled of alcohol. He said he reported the incident to the Police at the time.

Gardiner said he had reported it to the police. He said: “I saw a van with this man lying across the three seats. I went to give him a shake. He just grunted, but his breath smelled of alcohol. I reported it to the police. I don’t know what happened. Then I saw the van and the man’s picture today.”

Now just imagine for a moment that the incident in the bar was reported and the Police became involved. They would have a record of interacting with this man. Once the report come in reporting the man sleeping in the van and they established it was the same person, drunk, in a hire van, it may have been able to be prevented if the police had time to act on the report.
