Otto Warmbier has died days after release from North Korea, hospital says

And what is it you want?

Victim Culture to die....America is a rapidly failing Super Power, the global world order is dying, we dont have the bandwidth to mope anymore.

There is WAY too much work that needs to get done.

No, the Obama administration sent him over there and then left him to die.

This was a VERY bright and well educated kid - had a full scholarship at UVA that is the toughest to get, reserved for the very best applicants each year. The "confession" you quoted sure didn't come from him - it's borderline illiterate and this guy was far from illiterate.

Good Call

Actually, the real culprit is the Obama administration. They failed to protect our U.S citizens and couldn't get an innocent civilian out of harms way. Trump should be praised for his handling of the situation. He got Otto to his family and at least the Warmbier family received some sort of closure.

Obama was literally too busy building his brand. For that, he should be ashamed himself.

True, Obama could have done more, but the victim has to help a bit by not making stupid decisions in countries people have no legitimate reason to be in. Hell, we're trying to get the Norks not to nuke us, and we aren't making much more headway that we did trying to get them to spring Otto Wambler. BTW, who was the genius who gave him the passport in the first place? The death is on him.

Whoever said life was fair? I just don't believe all the blame is on Otto.

Sooner or later the USA and or China, is going to have to terminate the leadership in North Korea. This atrocity will just make it a bit easier for whomever makes the decision, to make it.

Cultural barriers, the unfriendly relationship and lack of diplomacy between North Korea and the United States makes factual and specific details about Otto's incarceration unlikely to emerge beyond the few that already know.
The blackout of information by a repressive government gives us one more reason to appreciate and tolerate the role the press plays in governments committed to a high level of transparency.
The medical staff's assessment of Otto in Cincinnati may have provided Otto's family the option of discontinuing extreme measures, like intubation, and switching to comfort measures only. I have let enough family members and friends know my wishes in the event I become mentally incapacitated. You may want to leave your loved ones instructions too.

Actually...it was a Chinese tourist agency that sent him there.

I visited the Young Pioneers website last week, and anybody who cares can read on its FAQs page that visiting North Korea is "very safe!"

Meanwhile, this young man's body isn't even cold, but judgmental vultures just couldn't wait to sit in judgment. Yes, this kid made a foolish mistake. He shouldn't have had to pay for it with his life.

Obama's entire North Korean folder was a disaster...completely.

Boy oh boy this thread is some kinda Fun House now!

Let's assume he's bright and well educated like you claim...

1. Went to North Korea, which is dumb.

2. Stole property in North Korea which is dumber still.

I don't believe somebody this foolish is incapable of writing a poorly worded letter. You're trying to deflect from the fact that this happened under Obama's watch, and Trump's administration had the gravitas and will to get him out of there.

Are you friggin' serious?
My God, man, give your head a shake. You're in danger of never coming back from the partisan fun-house.

Yes.

But then, in the very next post:

Hey, according to Christopher Hitchens, North Korea is what heaven would be like. Just display absolute obeisance to the Guy In Charge and everything will be rosy.

In the absence of details, my guess is that North Korea released him because he was deteriorating and that, as you say, his family chose to end more "aggressive" measures and to opt for palliative only. I'm sure that once his parents were apprised by American doctors of their son's condition, they knew that his death was inevitable. They've said that there was only one outcome possible, sigh.

I'm glad that when you were only 21, reinoe, you never did anything colossally dumb. I did. That's why I'm not sitting in judgment.

The way they treated an American citizen and detain others is a call for war in my opinion. A war to destroy the Kim regime is long overdue.

So why are you blaming Obama for his death?

The home page of the Young Pioneer Tours also says...."we provide “budget travel to destinations your mother would rather you stayed away from”.

Otto sounds like he was a good kid that just made a bad choice in the wrong place. It's very sad and I'm just glad his parents found some kind of closure for their son.

You sound like Jeb Bartlet.

Those days are gone.

The young man was 22 years old. Just barely 21 when he was arrested for supposedly stealing a political sign. Seventeen months he was incarcerated.

His father claims North Korea is luring Americans to their country as "fodder."

Whatever those SOB's did to him resulted in Otto losing brain tissue in all portions of his brain.

I'm a bit taken back by those who claim that Otto is the one responsible for what happened to him.

If the story is true and he stole a poster the punishment hardly fits the crime.

What a bunch of ruthless evil bastards.

Thanks for such a compassionate and truly insightful response.

And btw, you don't get to dismiss the class.
