Official warns illinois finances in 'massive crisis mode'

Today we shall see if Illinois gets a budget.

The Rauner veto has pretty much cemented his fate in the next election, I think.

Hopefully enough reps cross over to override his veto. My senator - a R leader- resigned last week, so she helps with a functional abstention...

Rauner vetoed it because it was crap. Increased taxes and no solution to the state's spending issues or pension. My guess is Moodys will still downgrade us to "Junk" even if his veto get's overridden and this so-called budget is made official.

As for any Repub crossovers (traitors), they'll get their asses primaried come election time. They better have enough money in their campaign warchests to survive a challenge, because they probably won't be getting help from the State RNC and voters.

You can't always get what you want.

And when you don't, you can't pick up the ball and go home every year for three years+...

the state needs a budget.

the state needs a budget.

You're right...we need a budget. But we don't need tax increases.

Believe it or not, tax increases aren't always the ultimate solution to problems.

Hm. We are spending more than we are taking in, and even if that's fixed, we need to backfund pensions big time.

Unless you're living in some fantasyland, there's no way we don't need a tax increase. It's simple math.

Gee...maybe we should cut spending.

Oh wait. That makes sense. I apologize for such a stupid suggestion. Spend, baby SPEND!! Woohoo!

Whoever said it was? Alternatively, I've seen Repubs claim tax cuts will pretty much cure anything.

Which spending?

Even if that's done... you'll need a tax increase.

So yeah... it's a pretty stupid suggestion on its own. Which is why Rauner has been a disaster, championed by idiots who have little understanding of government, taxation, or logic.

Veto gets overriden with many Repubs crossing over!

Repubs who will probably lose their jobs for being spineless traitors

Illinois wins, but it's clear we need a new Governor to find long term solutions.
No, Illinois loses. And i think it'd be better if Madigan were kicked out of office.

I read that Illinois has 17.5k retirees that make more than $100k/year in pensions. The state really is F'ed.
