WASHINGTON — North Korea has released Otto Warmbier, an American serving a 15-year prison term with hard labor for alleged anti-state acts, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Tuesday in an announcement that came as former NBA player Dennis Rodman was paying a return visit to Pyongyang.

“At the direction of the President, the Department of State has secured the release of Otto Warmbier from North Korea,” Tillerson said in a statement. “Mr. Warmbier is en route to the U.S. where he will be reunited with his family.”

Good on you, Trump Administration. :applaud

Hopefully they can help release more jailed American citizens from NK in the near future.

I'm sorry but if you are an American and you willingly go a country like North Korea or any other country that hates our guts and you are not on US government business then you deserve to be stuck there. Trump shouldn't have done anything. Because its not like people didn't know that North Korea kidnaps people or that North Korea imprisons people on phony charges. I am pretty sure that every travel agency probably warned this person and every other dumb**** that could happen to them. Its just smart as a former Muslim visiting relatives in a hard core Muslim country or a black man going to a KKK rally in the middle of nowhere by himself or Donald Trump supporter by him or herself walking into a middle of a ANTIFA rally.

Agree with all of this except for the last sentence. Radical groups are not on the same scale as an authoritarian regime. But yeah, that dude had no business being in NK.

Good news. And if Trump's team had anything to do with it then kudos to them. I somehow doubt they were negotiating for his release, though I could easily be wrong. At this moment, my guess is this was more about Kim wanting to make his buddy Rodman look good.

But either Trump or Rodman should get credit. And either of those scenarios is kind of amazing. :)

Doesn't this mean that there's a US NK dialogue going on? A small success step forward, with perhaps more larger ones to follow? Almost too much to hope for.

Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that Trump is once again taking advantage of another's work?

If this article is true NK release of Otto is so they won't have the death of the student on their hands.

TOKYO — University of Virginia student Otto Warmbier has been medically evacuated from North Korea in a coma after being detained for 17 months, his parents told The Washington Post on Tuesday.
Warmbier, 22, is due to arrive home in Cincinnati on Tuesday evening, after a stop at a U.S. military facility in Sapporo, Japan.
The family said they were told by North Korean officials — through contacts with American envoys — that Warmbier fell ill from botulism sometime after his March trial and fell into a coma after taking a sleeping pill. The Warmbiers said they were told their son has remained in a coma since then.
There was no immediate confirmation from U.S. officials of North Korea’s version of events — notably whether Warmbier was stricken with botulism, a potentially fatal illness that is caused by a toxin but is not usually associated with loss of consciousness.

Possibly. But seeing how unpredictable Kim Jong Un is, it probably is too much to hope for.

Yeah, this. :yt

I don't think it's got squat to do with Trump.

Thank you for posting this.

Hopefully all American citizens will learn NOT to go anywhere near North Korea, not even on business. It is simply way too dangerous.

Thank you for posting this.

Your welcome.

imo, the release is more to do with NK does not want to risk having Otto die while being held than any political efforts done my the Administration or Rodman.

I have very little sympathy for anyone who knowingly wanders into a situation like this. They should send him a bill.

That might very well be the case; it certainly seems like a plausible explanation to me.

The coma part of this story leaves much to my imagination.

Otto Warmbier made a mistake in judgment clearly out of naivety. JamesRage and Erod's apparent lack of compassion speaks volumes. I would never knowingly choose either one of them as a battle mate.

I genuinely hope Otto regains consciousness and some semblance of a normal life. May Prayers and much Love go out in support of Otto!

Actually having read about this story has deeply changed my view of North Korea.

The statements that Warmbier made in trial, show that they have a dead ringer Roland Freisler and Reichsgerichtshof over there.

A sentence of 15 years for a child's prank (or made up altogether)? But for me the worst part is, that they took care for a young prisinor in such a way, that he lies in coma shortly after.

I hadn't bothered for North Korea to build all their rockets and nuclear bombs they desired.

Now I have started hoping that Pjoenjang will give reason for Trump to get trigger happy.

If that guy had a battle buddy then I am sure his battle buddy would call him a dumbass, a retard or something worse for wanting to go to North Korea. This isn't the first time North Korea has kidnapped someone or locked them up on bogus charges.

Trump made it part of his campaign, Americans being held in foreign countries, why is it so hard to believe?

Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that Trump is once again taking advantage of another's work?

Because you simply hate trump and in your mind there is no possible way that given choices, he would pick the correct one. NO MATTER WHAT...

My guess is he and Rodmann were in cahoots.

It isn't hard to believe, I just haven't seen any evidence yet that the release is a result of Trump's efforts. On the other hand the release did coincide with Rodman's visit. So my position is based on the current facts in evidence. If other supported facts come out I will adjust my position accordingly.

The "amazing" comment was in reference to the likelihood that either a former reality show host or a former flamboyant basketball player were responsible for this wonderful turn of events. It was a joke, hence the smilie face.

Yeah, that Travel Agency used by Otto probably modeled part of their pitch in the manner of a Military Recruiter by accentuating the positive and downplaying the negative. Young Otto may have envisioned a Great Adventure with no idea of the real risk.
