How'd he end up in a coma?
How'd he end up in a coma?
I'm sorry but if you are an American and you willingly go a country like North Korea or any other country that hates our guts and you are not on US government business then you deserve to be stuck there. Trump shouldn't have done anything. Because its not like people didn't know that North Korea kidnaps people or that North Korea imprisons people on phony charges. I am pretty sure that every travel agency probably warned this person and every other dumb**** that could happen to them. Its just smart as a former Muslim visiting relatives in a hard core Muslim country or a black man going to a KKK rally in the middle of nowhere by himself or Donald Trump supporter by him or herself walking into a middle of a ANTIFA rally.
Hopefully all American citizens will learn NOT to go anywhere near North Korea, not even on business. It is simply way too dangerous.
Yeah, that Travel Agency used by Otto probably modeled part of their pitch in the manner of a Military Recruiter by accentuating the positive and downplaying the negative. Young Otto may have envisioned a Great Adventure with no idea of the real risk.

I have to agree. One has to be a complete and utter moron to go to countries like Iran, NK, and others. The same continue to be utter morons to expect that the USA would come and get their stupid asses out of the jam they've gotten themselves into.
Should these people die because of their stupid action, well, I'd only say that it'd be Darwinism asserting itself. Darwinism, a scientific theory, so how can that possibly be a bad thing?
It can be called Darwinism...it could also be called glutton for punishment. It's almost like these people want to be captured. I'm not sure if it's a death wish although it could be, but it certainly is a wish for abuse of some sort.
Wow. The Obama admin didn't want to get their own hands dirty so they got a naive kid to engage in theft in another country. And of course Obama couldn't be bothered to do anything to help him get free. Obama is worse than I ever imagined. Thank God for Trump and Dennis Rodman. Wambier was star struck and tricked by the Obama administration into committing this crime, and the administration left him to rot and die.I never, never should have allowed myself to be lured by the United States administration to commit a crime in this country, I wish that the United States administration never manipulate people like myself in the future to commit crimes against foreign countries. I entirely beg you, the people and government of the DPRK, for your forgiveness. Please! I made the worst mistake of my life!

Good on you, Trump Administration. :applaud
Hopefully they can help release more jailed American citizens from NK in the near future.
Doesn't this mean that there's a US NK dialogue going on? A small success step forward, with perhaps more larger ones to follow? Almost too much to hope for.

Possibly. But seeing how unpredictable Kim Jong Un is, it probably is too much to hope for.
The coma part of this story leaves much to my imagination.
Otto Warmbier made a mistake in judgment clearly out of naivety. JamesRage and Erod's apparent lack of compassion speaks volumes. I would never knowingly choose either one of them as a battle mate.
I genuinely hope Otto regains consciousness and some semblance of a normal life. May Prayers and much Love go out in support of Otto!
Actually having read about this story has deeply changed my view of North Korea.
The statements that Warmbier made in trial, show that they have a dead ringer Roland Freisler and Reichsgerichtshof over there.
A sentence of 15 years for a child's prank (or made up altogether)? But for me the worst part is, that they took care for a young prisinor in such a way, that he lies in coma shortly after.
I hadn't bothered for North Korea to build all their rockets and nuclear bombs they desired.
Now I have started hoping that Pjoenjang will give reason for Trump to get trigger happy.

No. It says that the USA communicates to N.K. through neutral Sweden and their Embassy.
Because humanity already tried that as a society framework. It didn't go well.
OK. Still, there's at least some form of dialogue going on, even if it is through an intermediary. But, yes, hope diminishes.
Can't really have zero communication... heck, even making statements on TV for others to hear is a form of communicating.
If this article is true NK release of Otto is so they won't have the death of the student on their hands.
TOKYO — University of Virginia student Otto Warmbier has been medically evacuated from North Korea in a coma after being detained for 17 months, his parents told The Washington Post on Tuesday.
Warmbier, 22, is due to arrive home in Cincinnati on Tuesday evening, after a stop at a U.S. military facility in Sapporo, Japan.
The family said they were told by North Korean officials — through contacts with American envoys — that Warmbier fell ill from botulism sometime after his March trial and fell into a coma after taking a sleeping pill. The Warmbiers said they were told their son has remained in a coma since then.
There was no immediate confirmation from U.S. officials of North Korea’s version of events — notably whether Warmbier was stricken with botulism, a potentially fatal illness that is caused by a toxin but is not usually associated with loss of consciousness.

"fell ill" = result of mistreatment, most likely some form of torture.
If he dies here in the US, it's still on NK's hands.
Suffering from very severe financial difficulties, but not so severe that he couldn't afford to go on an international vacation. I think you're letting your heart lead you away from things that are logical. After reading this thread, I'm glad to know that most of the people posting were paragons of mature perfection at 21. Some lady at this kid's church offered him a car worth $10K for swiping a poster (or banner--I've read both). Stupid? Yes. Worthy of you all sitting in smug judgment the way you are? I don't think so. How about a little charity or grace here?
From Time:
In a tearful statement made before his trial, Warmbier told a gathering of reporters in Pyongyang he was offered a used car worth $10,000 if he could get a propaganda banner and was also told that if he was detained and didn't return, $200,000 would be paid to his mother in the form of a charitable donation.
Warmbier said he accepted the offer because his family was "suffering from very severe financial difficulties." Otto Warmbier: North Korea Releases Jailed American Student | Time.com
Other stupid crimes mentioned in the article: ripping up a visa and leaving a Bible in a club.

I would choose them as a battle mate over this kid or those that would let me go into a **** situation like this kid did. James and Erod would do what a mate SHOULD DO. Stop you from doing something stupid that will cause you harm.
