WASHINGTON — If President Trump did secretly record his private White House meetings, he didn't enlist the Secret Service to help.

The agency responded to a Freedom of Information Act request from the Wall Street Journal for any tapes that may exist by saying they didn't have any audio recordings or transcripts of any tapes.

..it eliminates the possibility that he'd recreated a taping system used by Presidents Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy that was run by the Secret Service.

I still say that Trump's Tweet about tapes was referring to his belief that the stale crud leftovers from B.O.'s admin were illegally obtaining information about him, and releasing it to the press, which is very plausible.

No tapes! What is your opinion?

I certainly hope that the goings on in the White House are recorded. If they are not, it is a severe failing of our system of controls on power.

Maybe a 24/7 lie detector device could be implanted.

I do think that we should have recordings of persona holding power. This is for later reference by courts or other need to know situations. to be defined. Not all holders of every type of power need hold recordings of their doing at all times, but the more id est far reaching the power one holds, the tighter must be the capability to retrospectively see, what the person did and said. So, yes. The President should be as should the White House be 24/7 recorded. As a matter of fact, I would have thought that after our experiences with Watergate this would be uncontroversial.

Well, if there are no tapes, then he lied about their implied existence in an attempt to frighten Comey into being silent. I'd say that didn't really work out very well for him.

...until you remember that his sworn testimony wasn't for you or for me. There's a reason why it was so completely dry, merely confirmed or denied previous claims and provided relatively few bombshells. The key words are "sworn" and "testimony." What is sworn testimony typically used for?

Hint: Comey wasn't there to entertain you.

Tim O’Brien, who wrote the biography, “TrumpNation: The Art of Being the Donald” said that Trump threatened him with recordings of their conversations amidst a lawsuit about his unflattering book. There were no tapes. It was just part of Trump intimidation.

As everyone here should already be aware of the fact, Trump is a serial liar; he can not be trusted whatsoever.
If there are tapes, or if there are not tapes, that is not the issue.
The REAL issue is, we have a POTUS that is a liar that no one can believe, and that is EXTREMELY dangerous.

No leader of any nation will ever know if Trump is lying to them, or not. The fact that Trump is NOT believable because he is a known liar, this will present great problems when it comes to any international crisis.

Having an unbelievable serial liar in The White House, no matter if Trump, or another person is a very dangerous thing for our planet.
IMO Trump is a real danger to all humanity.

Why would Trump enlist the aid of the secret service? These are the jokers who had an agent come out and publicly state that she wasn't willing to do her job because of politics.

Then another agent got her laptop "stolen" off a motorcycle but the agent wasn't even fired.

The secret service is full of idiots who can't be trusted.
