According to cops, the young mother first brought her two daughters —Brynn Hawkins, 1, and Addyson Overgard-Eddy, 2 — to Peterson Regional Medical Center in “grave condition” on Wednesday, claiming the girls had collapsed after smelling flowers during an outing at Flat Rock Park...Hawkins was accompanied to the Peterson Regional Medical Center by an unidentified 16-year-old male, whom had allegedly been with her in the house at the time her daughters were in the car.

Two Toddlers Dead After Mom Leaves Them in Car for 15 Hours

Okay, so we have a 19 year old (apparently unmarried) woman with a 2 year old and a 1 year old child, meaning she had the first child when she was 17 years old, and the second at 18 years.

She is also hanging out with a "peer" who was 16 years old, both spending all night at a third party's home leaving the kids in the car alone for 15 hours.

Anyone else notice that there are more problems with this scenario than just "heartless carelessness?"

I rarely approve of using the law in these sorts of tragedies but I do here.

More than just "bad parenting."

Where is the "father" in all of this? Or is there more than one?

She is "only 19" and already has two kids, and still partying like she is a single woman without a care in the world.

There's a 16 year old boy involved and we don't yet know who they were both "visiting" all night.

Now I have no problem with "close in age" relationships, but why couldn't she leave the kids with their grand-parents?

There are so many social issues involved in this situation beyond the simple and tragic ending.

And the law is almost useless in dealing with that sort of deficiency.

People increasingly suck, and crap parenting is a major reason why, but Hillary was right it does take a village, and the village has failed miserably.

We have got to make a stand for making America great again, and when we see so much basic failure of Americans to do things right as i do these days we know what a massive job that is.

Things like this are why I hate a system that by near default grants all custody to the mother, when quite often the mother is a complete monster. Bad parents know both genders, and it is sad something like this would go nearly unpunished, and had it been a divorce case had she been married, she likely would have won custody even if that was presented in court.

Two baby daddies, split up with the father of the one year old after they were evicted. And, she is already seeing/banging/getting high with/whatever another guy, a 16 year old, who was also arrested regarding this child endangerment case.

Amanda Hawkins are her husband are estranged.

"Hawkins and her husband, Isaac Hawkins, Brynn’s father, were investigated by Child Protective Services last year. Mary Walker, CPS spokeswoman, confirmed that the agency investigated the Hawkinses over an incident in September but said she couldn’t discuss any details or the outcome of that investigation." Mother arrested in death of daughters who were left in vehicle overnight - San Antonio Express-News

Ahh. I think I'm starting to see the intersection...

Just last year a teenage man shot and killed his stepson for jumping on the bed. The boy's biological father was in prison at the time. The mother in that case sure knew how to pick winners.

And then there's this, a deadbeat woman lets her own children die in her car while she parties down with someone else's kid.

The common link is a lack of concern by both women for anyone but themselves, and especially not their kids. Their actions always put their own interests ahead of the children who loved them unconditionally and whose lives depended on them - literally.

But what more should we expect? These mothers are the product of no-fault divorce, a tax code that rewards single parenting, and a culture that outright demonizes hard work and personal responsibility.

So they've played their role and finished their act. They can take a bow at the graves of their ungrown children and the societal audience can applaud and go on rewarding the behavior that led us here.
