New York attorney general ‘looking into’ Eric Trump’s foundation

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is “looking into” a charitable foundation founded by Eric Trump, a spokesman for Schneiderman said, after Forbes magazine raised questions about whether President Trump's son had made misleading statements about how the foundation spent its money. The New York attorney general has jurisdiction over charities in the state, where Eric Trump's foundation is registered. Schneiderman's office would say little about this new inquiry, other than to report that it was at an early stage and could not be considered a formal investigation. “The attorney general's office is looking into issues at the Eric Trump Foundation raised by the Forbes report,” said spokesman Eric Soufer in a written statement. One item at issue, the attorney general's office said, was that the Eric Trump Foundation has rebranded itself “Curetivity” and held a fundraiser under that name. But, after a query from The Washington Post on Friday morning, the attorney general's office said the charity had not officially changed its name with New York charity regulators.

The main impetus for this inquiry was the Forbes story, published earlier this week. It examined the Eric Trump Foundation's tradition of holding fundraiser golf tournaments at Trump-owned courses. Although Eric Trump had asserted repeatedly that his father's company allowed him to use the courses free, Forbes found evidence that the Eric Trump Foundation has actually paid the Trump Organization to use them. Eric Trump did not respond to a request for comment from The Post on Friday afternoon. Schneiderman's office is already investigating the president's own name-branded foundation, the Donald J. Trump Foundation. A series of stories in The Post last year revealed instances in which Trump had used his charity's money to settle lawsuits involving his for-profit businesses or to buy portraits of himself. That investigation is ongoing, a spokeswoman for Schneiderman said Friday.

Smacks of bait-and-switch, money laundering, and charity fraud.

yea, yea, yea...we all know...the usual gang of Obama/Hillary loving leftists wanting to take down the Trumps.

Won't work.

Lol, what an unprofessional joke that AG is.

The New York AG's office has been weaponized.

Next this silly NY AG may conjure up a possible scandal concerning Barron Trump and baseball cards.

Lol. Conservatives have sure slipped a bunch when it comes to law and order.

Karma can be interesting to watch unfold. The Trumps are as dirty as the Clintons. It was more adventagious for Putin to back the ***** grabber.

Oh but it will because 990s were filed with the IRS. They are incontrovertible proof that Eric and his Foundation lied to donors about where their donations were going and misrepresented the "charity" in their promotional materials.

Man Trump people forget fast.... The Trump Foundation closed because it was illegal... the whole family are a bunch of criminals. Using charity to buy stuff for themselves and as political donations..... pathetic. Of course the kids are no better than the father. Hope that he goes to jail.

Oh so now Forbes is liberal too? If it isn't Bigotbart or Faux News, the ALT Right thinks everything is bias.

I don't dismiss the comment in #10. But
I can still nearly agree w/ #2.
The reason Trump's political antagonists (Democrat & Republican alike) may not take down Trump is Trump may beat them to it.
Trump has so many potential scandals brewing; not just charity fraud, but the Russia connection, and several others.

Might not be a bad idea to practice pronouncing the words: "President Pence".

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is widely admired by his peers. And our AG inspires alarm and fear in New York's broad and thriving criminal class.

Wild guess, Governor Cuomo isn't the only New Yorker holding high State office with future political ambition. And Schneiderman is smart enough and skilled enough to not sabotage his own political future with gratuitous prosecutorial shenanigans.

Exxon calls New York attorney general's probe a 'political witch hunt' - Jun. 9, 2017
The company says in a court document filed Friday that Schneiderman made "inflammatory, reckless and false allegations" against Exxon, and is leading a "politically based investigation."

The company also alleged that Schneiderman is engaged in a "political witch hunt" and is trying to sway potential jurors if a case ever goes to trial.

Looks like the NY AG isn't so virtuous.

And we know that as an irrefutable certitude because defendants are intrinsically honest, and history proves no defendant has ever lied.

Thanks for clearing it up. If Exxon says it, it MUST be true!

Nothing wrong, it's just that the guy you are holding up to get Trump is a political hack, that's all. All of a sudden, as the false Russian left wing smear job falls apart, another BS attack pops up. This one is probably just to keep the smear going until they let us know about another huge "scandal" that we've all missed.

But hey, no need to question that they just keep pulling these things out of nowhere. No, don't do that. They probably just discovered this, right?

a) I don't recall ever having done that.

b) There've been comments from Republican party leaders that were more conspicuously oriented toward that end than anything I recall ever having posted.

c) To the contrary, my comment was:
"The reason Trump's political antagonists (Democrat & Republican alike) may not take down Trump is Trump may beat them to it." s #13

Excellent!
It's not clear to me how that refutes any comment I posted. My comment was:
" Schneiderman is widely admired by his peers. And our AG inspires alarm and fear in New York's broad and thriving criminal class." s #13

Because of President Trump, the term "credibility gap" has returned to prominent media. Trump has delivered so many falsehoods, it's difficult to track them all. Most reports indicate they already number in the hundreds.
"But hey, no need to question that they just keep pulling these things out of nowhere. No, don't do that. They probably just discovered this, right?" A6
You're on your own here cupcake. I deduce you have inferred what I did not imply. I have a law enforcement background, and appreciate guys like Giuliani that earn a reputation for crime-busting.

I don't recall ever having asserted it was well earned. But Schneiderman may be more well-noted in NY than most other AGs in their own home States. And I suspect most New Yorkers couldn't name another NY AG.

nspirac this is expected. Since the Democrats couldnt make the Russian collusion lunacy stick, or the obstruction charge stick, theyre going to move onto this, which the AG himself doesnt qualify as a formal investigation.

This is partisan desperation by a people who still havent come to terms with Hillary's election loss.

These adults responding like emotionally stunted chchildr by tantruming every chance they get.
