several of his questions confused viewers, and seemingly Comey himself, and he occasionally was incoherent. He referred to “President Comey,” and at times looked confused and frustrated with Comey's answers. Viewers clearly thought it was notable; Twitter announced it was the most-tweeted moment of the hearing

Anyone who watched or listened to this today had to come away wondering what was going on with John McCain. This was completely bizarre. He is generally pretty pointed and succinct in his questioning. This, however, was twilight zone material. Honestly, It made me kind of wonder if he suffered a stroke or something.

I myself could not follow McCain's line of questioning, nor grasp his underlying objective. It was very bizarre.

They need to put McStupid and Little Don Grabby in the same padded room.

It was pretty sad.

I hope his confusion was caused because he was overly tired and not because of a health issue.

It is probably just the normal signs of aging, if not something more severe (Alzheimer's?), and time for that fossil to retire. He will likely assert fatigue or some such nonsense - after all, having to work 100 or so days a year at a desk job is tough.

Looks like his career is over. Too bad he couldn't walk away gracefully.

McCain has mentally entered the land of Pelosi.

Dude got like five airplanes blown up under him, and was held as a POW by some rather unfriendly people for a while. And he's old a ****.

I'll give him a little slack for fatigue.

But not for being a spineless coward when it comes to politics. He'll wring his hands and state he's "deeply concerned" over some of the dumb **** his party does, but actually voting against said dumb **** is a rare step for him. Talking about principles doesn't mean anything if you don't ever act on them.

"Maverick" my ass.

He isn't senile. The highlighted sentence is the action of every politician out there. Totally chained to vote the party line no matter how reprehensible.

Well sure that fits....not too many people accuse this guy of having good judgement, especially after he selected a bimbo for VP, but the list is so very long....

A trumprotector calling Sarah Palin a 'bimbo for VP'? We all know the rage that would generate if it came from the left .

Agreed. It it turns out to be a health issue I hope he can be treated for it.

I have always respected John McCain; hell, I've voted for him more than once! What I saw today shocked me and made me fear for his health. His obvious mental confusion, inability to grasp simple concepts, unable to remember what had just been explained to him mere minutes earlier, was an all too frightening reminder of the symptoms shown by a family member immediately after having a mild stroke.

Fingers crossed it was just fatigue, but his family needs to get him to a hospital right away, in my opinion.

I have long been disappointed on McCain's failure to lash out on Trump as they are polar opposites but today I was stunned at his questions.

McCain has mentally entered the land of Pelosi.

At least he didn't fall asleep like Reagan did all those years ago.

McCain should have been shown the door several elections back, but I guess Arizona voters like senile senators.

You know I thought very similarly about that yesterday....I think he was trying to get at why when having some of the same concerns in the Clinton email scandal, what with Lynch working to effect the election, and trying to pressure the way he characterized the investigation, why he didn't take notes on them, or report that interference in his investigation, or why he after laying out a cogent argument for indictment on multiple statute violations he just let her off, but not Trump?....

But, he fumbled, and bumbled through, and in the process looked like he was having a pretty serious senior moment....He should have retired....People don't know when to step down.

IMO McCain has demonstrated for many years that he does not have the mental capacity, nor the ability to perform as a US Senator

the guy needs to seriously retire; like about 20 years ago .........

It's long past time for him, and many others, to go off into the sunset.

I was going to say, people are wondering about McCain, and haven't noticed Pelosi being like this for years? Hello? Hello? Anyone paying attention?

Sarah Palin was a bimbo, but if that's too spicy, I'm fine with calling her an airhead.

The difference is that people on the right don't immediately flock to Pelosi as if she were a shining beacon whenever she says something they agree with (which is rare).
